Wife and I did this for honeymoon. It was great. Don't drink the water though. I got a bad case of the squirts.

Excellence Playa Mujares is about 30-45 mins from Cancun, and if you want to do any excursions it adds to the time. The beach is isolated, the rooms are nice, and the food is sub-par.
Playa Mujares is 16 miles from Cancun Airport. Took 20 minutes. It not the prettiest beach I've ever been to but by far the mist relaxing do to the amenities. I tend to agree about the food. Living in Louisiana I've learned food anywhere else has a hard time living up to what I'm used to. But the all you can eat lobster made up for it. And room service breakfast on the porch of our room every morning was amazing.

GREAT PLACE. went there for our honeymoon. Found that for the price it's the beat value. I did a TON of researching on TripAdvisor and it has great reviews and is wonderful. Seriously need to look into it. I CANNOT stress this enough

We did too. How clutch was that "secrets box" or whatever you call that giant 2 way mailbox with a lock? We would order room service, then take care of honeymoon business. By the time we were done, our midnight snacks were waiting in that box.

There is an Excellence In Cancun and I think it's a bit cheaper. It was great, but go on Trip Advisor and read some reviews and look at pics to see which you would prefer. [/ everything Reb just said haha]

If you want to stay in Cancun I wouldn't bother with all inclusive. Stay at the Hyatt and walk to most of the bars/restaurants or a short taxi. Too many great places to eat and drink to be holed up in your hotel. Outside of Cancun all inclusive is the better option.

I don't think I want the hotel feel....more of the resort type place...least that's what looks better to me after looking at a million places.

This is my first trip here so really nothing to compare it to but I really don't know what else I'd ask for . Excellence playa. Will come back. Soon. My wife and I wanted to pretty much stay at the resort so no excursions. She did all the research down to the exact room to ask for. Much cheaper than our trip to destin last summer. Service is wonderful. Rooms very nice. Drinks good. We joined the club for upgrades in drinks, heated pools etc. food is honestly average. 9 restaurants so you can find something's you like. But it's not New Orleans food. We are very interested in what it would be like in warmer weather Intend to find out. Last night here.

My favorite has been the Omni. Their beach front is great!
