Duh. I like fringe. Watched the entire 2nd season. Want to finish, but I cannot decide whether they were paying homage or ripping it off.

Finish it Fox. imo, Fringe was way better as a whole but X-Files did the "mystery of the week" episodes better. Fringe doesn't stay in that mode for the entirety of its run.

I am, but the x files was amazing. The story arch got really convoluted, or I should say too convoluted, after season 6, but the monster of the week episodes were always top notch. Seasons 1-6 are really really hard to beat.

X files had potential to be better. But fringe was much better at sticking to a plan for overall arcs and mythology. As a story from beginning to end fringe is so much better that it isn't even close.

I don't think there's a clear cut answer. The X-Files was an iconic show of it's era. It also was more government conpiracy than scifi which broadens it's appeal. But the Fringe story arc was just so well crafted and executed. Time travel and resetting time lines often kills shows (see Heroes), but it was an integral part of Fringe. They also were able to have 2 fairly separate stories, alternate universes and time travel, both be seamlessly interwoven into the main story arc.

There are so many episodic story lines that the major plot really didn't matter as much. We should have gotten closure on mulder's sister. That's what the show is really about. Mulder's search for Samantha. The characters are all so good, especially fox mulder.

Yes x files was usually better at the episodic episodes. Also it was more varied because it allowed for more supernatural cases rather than trying to explain things with pseudo science / fringe science.

X-Files story arcs did get convoluted at times, but I feel like Fringe is hokey.

Just watch Fringe, I was pissed at the lack of closure in the x-files, absolutely pissed: Fringe finishes everything and then puts a huge red bowtie on top.

Say that again and super Olivia or observer Peter might make you regret it. I do at times agree with you though. I usually cringed when astro was on camera. And there were some cringe worthy episodes here and there.

I would like to point out that closure is a big deal to me.. if you can't finish your story correctly, then you automatically lose a bunch of points in my book.

There was zero closure in the x files. Carter never really wrote beyond individual seasons and had no plans to end it. However, 75% of x files is individual episodes. I' never watched the x files for the alien arch. If you get through it on DVD then I understand your disappointment, but week to week there wasn't a better show on television for 4 years. Plus they had to write around duchovny leavin the show and that made the overall story get even crazier and didn't allow time for then to properly close out the Samantha mystery.
