as opposed to a layup, it does. how can you not see this? those 1 or 2 a game come out to be 100-150 a game. one dunk might not directly hurt them but they can add up. bottom line the dunk isnt necessary. same as some RBs and wide receivers going out of bounds instead of taking the hit. keeps you in the league longer

Jumping high as opposed to jumping just "kind of high" isn't going to make any kind of a difference with regards to anything at all.
Basketball players are constantly jumping during a game whether it is rebounding, shooting, blocking shots, jump balls, lay-ups, dunks, etc.
Dunking the ball isn't going to make any kind of difference.
