Now that Cannabis is legal in CO/WA, it raises an interesting conundrum for parents who consume and what it means for their children.
I don't have kids (thank you flying spaghetti monster) but most of my friends do, and most of them smoke pot.
They seem to have taken different strategies with regards to cannabis consumption and their children.
I have one pot head father friend who hides it from his child. His kid is 6, and not all that bright so its unlikely he figures it out soon. His family also elects not to smoke cigarretes (the mother smokes) or consume alcohol around the child. I like their consistency, but suspect its going to cause problems when the kid figures all of this out.
I have another friend who is a father and smokes daily. His strategy is slightly different, he consumes it in the presence of the child (age 3) but he doesn't make a big deal about it, and doesn't get wasted. He will wander away from the child when he smokes, to avoid 2nd hand smoke, but not hide the fact he is smoking. His reasoning is the kid is going to figure it out sooner rather later, and its best to honest about his consumption habit.
I have a 3rd friend that tells his kid he is smoking a cigar, but its actually a joint.
So what would the OT do? Assuming you live in CO or WA. If you would hide it from your child, do you drink in front of them? What type of example do you think it sets for them?

it's just like drinking around your kids IMO. if they see you, just remind them it's for older people

75%+ I know will consume cannabis, even if its just a casual thing. All are 30+. Almost all are professionals. I don't see why they need to grow up. They have jobs, they provide, the follow the law. Its not like they are sitting on their couch getting their kid stoned and playing xbox.

I see it as no different than alcohol or cigarettes.
If people let their kids see them do that, why not pot?
People will make arguments based on cultural attitudes that are based on the legal status of marijuana, but those arguments will not be based on logic or consistency.

Agree, no worse than any other vice. This is assuming the vice is legal though. Also assuming the surrounding kids aren't getting residuals off the vice.
