| Worst DMV Experiences (Posted on 1/22/13 at 3:48 pm)
Having to go (in person) to renew my license made me realize the hatred I have for those that take the solemn oath to "never sweat on the job or take a shite off of it." The DMV is the marvel of government inefficiency. What are some of the worst experiences you've had with the creatures that inhabit the DMV?

Had to go to the DMV earlier this year.. Figured I'd go to Baker since it is usually less crowded. 3 fricken hours waiting in line to pay them lots of money on a used truck I bought.

All of them are equally suicide inducing.

My uncle was nearly mugged in Baltimore. EDIT: Didn't read OP. Thought this was about DC/Maryland/Virginia

I had a lady yell at me and tell me she wouldn't serve me after I tried to inform her I had the proper documentation required per state law. The sign taped to the outside of her desk said "Please be patience, I am in training." This was after I watched her and her co-worker discuss their earring selection for the day for 10+ minutes without serving anyone.

the one in lake Charles isn't exactly a pleasant experience, but it's not bad at all. it's surprisingly efficient

The DMV Express here is awesome. Last week I went to renew a vehicle registration at 11:45. Was in and out in literally less than a minute.

Had my license plates stolen in Columbus while I was at an Ohio State game. I reported the plates stolen and went to DMV the following Monday and they told me they could reissue the same plates. I was surprised but said sure. Three weeks later I'm driving with my wife to a Christmas party and I get pulled over. Cop comes up to the car with his gun drawn ordering us out of the car. Turns out that yes, DMV could issue the same plates but they didn't tell me that if they did reissue the plates I would be treated like I had stolen a vehicle if I got pulled over. I didn't even break any traffic laws. The cop was just randomly running plates while stopped at a red light.

Wow, that's insane! How long did it take to sort that out with the gun-wielder?

Took my daughter in to take her driver's test. A lady was there doing the same for her daughter. The DMV woman walked out with them to do the driving test, and we were told to wait. They all came back five minutes later, no test given, the girl failed. Reason? The DMV woman didn't like the way the mom had parked when they arrived. That DMV woman was a bitch. I would have filed a complaint.

It's a good thing his dog wasn't in the car...

About 15 minutes. Fortunately I had all my documentation in the car including the police report and it was clear that it was my vehicle. Still I did not like having a gun pointed at me.

Well I walk into the Houma DMV to change my address and I am thrilled to see that there isn't anyone there but three people. What were these three people waiting to do? They were all registering and sex offenders.

I've never had a really bad experience. In fact, the DMV on the West Bank was remarkably efficient the two times I went.

You have no clue until you deal with the Illinois DMV. Move to Texas from Louisiana. They ask for my La DL and proof of residence. I give them a copy of my apartment lease. All is good. Illinois- 1-Original birth certificate (Had to send off for one in BTR through the govt) 2-SS Card- (Mine was lost years ago) I had to go get another one 3-Proof of residence 4-Proof of insurance 5-Utility bill 6-Surrender the existing DL from Texas No wonder this state is so screwed....

Truth. I had my purse stolen and needed a new driver's license. I waited in line for like 10 minutes and the rest of the process took about 15. In and out in less than a half hour.
