I hAd one in college. It absessed and I had kti stuff gauze in it with a q-tip to help it heal from the inside (sucked). It never would though. Kept closing up when gauze would fall out. It sucked. I was happy to have surgery to get it removed. Couldn't sit down for almost two weeks. My cousin had his removed and was sitting withing 4-5 days though.

I had one. Went to a walk in and the lanced it. Sat in baths and it's never got better, but never really got infected either. Had surgery and has never been a problem since. The worst is recovery. They left mine open to heal from the inside. I had an open wound the size of a golf ball. When I would take a bath it looked like someone was chopped up in the water there was so much blood.

Update: So i still had not been seen after 5 hours. frick Navy Medical Center Balboa. I came home to get some sleep, and on the ride back... I smell what can only be described as puke, burnt metal and a-hole. The cyst had begun draining. So ive been in the shower with hot water on my arse letting it drain more. I have to get some sleep now, it's been hard to come by lately. Do I still need to hit up the ER? Or just keep letting it drain? I'm calling Gen Surgery to see if I can get surgery moved ahead to this week. Thanks all

Keep taking your abx. Is the pain better? I'd still try to head back up there when you get a chance. They may want to open it up a little more. It's kinda a hard location for you to doctor yourself. Once it has been opened you'll probably need to start some wet to dry dressing g changes.

Why didn't you stick it out? Couldn't have been much more of a wait?

My question, since the pain is to the point where I'm about to lose it, will they lance and drain it at the ER?
They should be able to do it in the ER.. I had the surgery to have it removed and a week prior to the surgery it got infected like that and they had to drain it 4 days prior to the operation to make sure all of the infection is out. You should cal your doctor who is doing the operation, he should be able to do something for you.

Sounds like it popped itself which has also happened to me. Depending on the size of the hole, it should begin to slowly feel better. The faster it drains, the better you'll feel. I would get some sleep, and if you are still feeling severe pain when you wake up, go get it sliced.

At 0600, about an hour ago, they said it may be another 3 hours. There were still people in front of me and it was shift change. I couldn't sleep or sit for shite in the waiting room.

Dude, I had one of those two years ago. I went to the Urgent Care nearby and they lanced and drained it within the hour.

Also they probably won't take it out while it is acutely infected so not sure you need to move up your appt if they drain it/pack it in the ER

I had a cyst on my back and they did everything in the office. Just deadened the area on my back and stitched me up and I was good to go.

the thing people dont realize about the ER is that it isnt first come first served. if there are people more seriously sick than you you get to continue sitting and waiting. also, i shadowed a surgeon once when he did one of these surgeries. the surgeon appeared to have cut out half of this guys ass.
