| OT Doctors: Pilonidal cyst**Updates Erry'where*** (Posted on 1/20/13 at 10:30 pm)
So I went to the ER Wed night with pain on my tailbone from a pilonidal cyst I developed. While painful, they didn't lance there was no discharge or head yet. Well, after 4 days of Percocet, antibiotics and a shite ton of stool softeners, its getting worse (the pain). I can see a head just below where the worst of the swelling is. I'm scheduled for General Surgery on the 28th. My question, since the pain is to the point where I'm about to lose it, will they lance and drain it at the ER? I waited 7 hours at the ER last time, I don't want to waste my time if they won't cut it and relieve some pressure. Also its a military hospital if that changes anything. Thanks in advance.

I had one in college. Had it lanced at a doctor's office as an outpatient, then had sitz baths. Was where I couldn't hardly walk at the time I went in. I never had the surgery. Thankfully hasn't returned. I have seen some people have the surgery. Supposedly recovery is rough. Comes from having a hairy ass.

I don't see how farting made it open since its at the very top of the crack.

Good luck, feel free to call and leave a message for me and I may return it before the 28th"

Yep. Makes me very happy I have Native American blood and nearly zero body hair.

My brother had one the size of a goofball and it went deep. Had surgery and was out of school for 3 weeks. He laid in his stomach for a week.

No. An ER doc is not gonna touch it. It's gotta be a surgeon.

Yeah thatd be me. I pretty much diagnosed it on my own before I went in, white male, 18-24, hairy ass, and had trauma from slipping and falling on it around Christmas. I just want it lanced and drained, want to make sure that they will since it has a head. frick painkillers, thats just masking my problem.

It seems to be more common down south. I assume because people sweat more.

From what I've heard, once they open it up, it may never heal.

Fuuuuck. I want this pressure relieved, I can't sit (even with that BS inflatable donut thing) or stand now without persistent pain. Like a bee stinging a bruise.

RIP I had one back in college during football season and was so painful I had to leave an LSU game. Got it drained and it still kind of lingers to the day.

you should go to the ER tonight i've lanced and drained quite a few of them and they are really really painful... and they smell horrible. saw two of them shoot clear across the room you REALLY don't want to wait it out because they bigger it gets, the worse the incision is going to get sounds like your doc on wednesday went the conservative route, which is fine, but it's getting worse... you could also draw a line around it with a pen/skin marker tonight, and if the red area is getting bigger in 12 hours, go to the ER.
