The lack of a steady lineup and extended hiatuses keep the Allman Brothers Band from elite status. Trust me, I love them as much as any shroom head but rules are rules.

WSP being that low is based off of nothing but your personal bias and makes this whole list irrelevant.

You think Widespread Panic is on the level of the Allman Brothers? Talk about personal bias

They just did a co-headlining tour with them a couple years ago..... So in the current landscape of the jam band scene? Yes they most certainly are.

And if we're taking history into account then ABB certainly deserves to be higher than your precious Phish

You basing this on ticket sales? Longevity? Album sales?

It should go Grateful dead, ABB > Wsp, Phish> everyone else

He's basing this off of his phish fanaticism and the false sense of superiority that comes along with it

The Grateful Dead will always be the quintessential jam band. They were game changers in so many ways from relentless touring to by far the most dedicated fan base in music (and really anything for that matter)

Please. Phish had their OWN festival with over 100,000 attendees. They played the world's biggest concert at the turn of the millennium (which at the time, was a big deal). They have toured all over Europe and even Japan. Widespread Panic can't sell out a show anywhere outside of the south. They also don't even have their original guitarist, who was the soul of the band.

As silly as it is, your list isn't too far off. Phish was passed the torch after Jerry's death. Based on ticket sales alone those two are in a class by themselves. Bela Fleck is not a jamband. Also, where is Furthur, Phil and Friends, Zero?

Can we issue a "honorable mention jam song" tier to Iron Butterfly for their great contribution to jam music?

Yeah, I don't consider Fleck a "jam band" either. Any more than The Dregs are a jam band.

Primus is sort of on the bubble. I'm not so sure that they are a jam band but they definitely display so jam band tendencies

The jam band community accepts them as a jam band I think. But Les himself would laugh at that notion.
