He doesn't have a good record in dire circumstances unfortunately. You could have used Chesty Puller if you want someone who had better success. LINK

Good choice. I know all about Chesty. My son was in the Marines and it's mandatory that they learn that story in basic training.

Who do we invade for lebensraum as a wartime measure excuse for being unalbe to improve the economy without a war? Who do we declare as being responsible for all that ails us? How many of those people do we imprison for thier "crimes"? When do we crank up the ovens and trains?

JFK...only because everybody would adore him as they have all these years, only for him to do an about face after he sees what liberal social policies have created.

Don't know and don't care. I wouldn't be sent to war or be on a train or in an oven. I'm not saying I agree with all of his methods....I am just saying he could get shite done.

I watched Quo Vadis last night, 1951, and the panel of movie critics panned Peter Ustinov for playing Nero 'over the top.' WTF??? Nero was over the top. How else are you gonna play him? Fred McMurray in 'My 3 Sons?'

What service do you find Quo Vadis being played? Or is this from your personal VHS collection?

TCM I don't have a VHS collection. But I've got a baseball card collection that hasn't been opened since 1969. Kind of like Al Capone's vault.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you don't know much about Jefferson. But hey, lets stick with contemporaries in this little hypothetical because they have such great track records.

It would't make a difference who the President was as long as the people are as bigoted and simple minded as we have become in the last 30 years or so. When narcissism became the order of the day we lost any hope of keeping our republic. Having said that Huey P. Long was pretty good at getting people without much of anything at all to vote their pocket books instead of their fear....but of course they weren't worried about cutting back on their cable package or cell phone use or internet provider, they were worried about their children starving to death or succumbing to the elements when they were put out of their homes. When we finally do get desperate like the depression generation was we will insist that politicians of all stripes do what is best for the nation and not just their own careers and pocketbooks.

What the frick is that supposed to mean. Every 10th grader in this country knows a thing or two about Jefferson. As it happens, American history was one of my majors in college; the presidency was a particular interest of mine. Jefferson was without a doubt among our most gifted and (in many ways) enlightened presidents. But this nation (and the world it inhabits) would be as foreign to him as an alien civilization. What makes you think he could effectively govern it?
