hard to get itnerested in a sport that is fixated on super teams and fouls that only benefit the star players. The NBA has no parity in it. It's the same teams over and over and over again.

what baseball where around 8 teams can spend as much money as they want to while the other have to try and be as good?

NBA had a piss poor product so this isn't a surprise. When I lived in Memphis they had whole portions of upper deck for five bucks and couldn't move the

One of those 8 teams hasn't won a World Series in 105 years.

No you don't. I live outside of Charlotte and I'd give anything for a competitive NBA team. Games are still over $50 for teams like the Lakers and Heat (all Lakers and Heat fans), and nobody wants to go see the Bobcats play the Wizards or Raptors. It's just bad, excruciating basketball.

what's the point of the regular season? gonna be the same teams every year at the end of the playoffs. sick of it.

not to mention Stern is a crooked dictator. it gets so damn obvious with the fixed drafts, player trades, refs...

I almost never walk away after watching a NFL game complaining about a lack of effort. I complain after almost every single NBA game I watch.

Then you don't watch much football. Multiple teams had 50 put on them this year and that only happens with a lack of effort. The Bucs quit in the 2nd half of this year and last. The Raiders at pretty much any point. fricking Cardinals lost a game 58-0, you think they were trying?

Basketball from the upper limits of the arenas is tough to watch. Throw in dilution of the product through over expansion plus awesome HDTVs and people can stay home.

Darren Rovell posts pictures of NBA arenas from Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Milwaukee, Sacramento etc. and they are all empty.

But the biggest thing is there is so much more to do these days. 100+ cable channels, video games, etc. divide up the entertainment pie.

In the 80's, there were 20 channels and not much else to do. An NBA game was the highlight of the week in the 20 cities that had a team.

bullshite, in the 80s there wasn't mass NBA games or highlights that got ratings or even broadcast.
See Below-

quote:

From 1975 to 1986, you could not count on all the games in the NBA finals to be broadcast live.

quote:

And forget the earlier rounds. Well, forget them unless you lived on West Coast. The weekends were at least live. Anything else was broadcast on tape-delay at 11:30 p.m. after the late-night news. Thank goodness CBS never found a decent late night host to take on Johnny Carson or who knows if anything would have been nationally televised outside of the weekends.

The reason given for this? NBA ratings were not very good and the playoffs took place during the important May sweeps period for TV networks
.

Then there was Magic, Larry, & Michael

re: NBA struggling to sell tickets even when they are $1

I think the NFL benefits from playing so few games. Think about how people count down the days until football season. The season starts right about when people are about to reach that, "frick it, its never coming back" moment. They are beyond excited like a drug.

Then, let's say your team sucks. Well, you have 8, just 8 opportunities to see that shithole team. Well, I can justify getting cheap tickets for 3 or 4 meaningless games for my team. Plus, if you are a football fan, the game might really matter to the other and your team can mess it up. Furthermore, remember, this product will be gone, no alternatives for 7 or 8 months. I better go!

Maybe I don't like the sport as much, maybe I am biased, but how do you get excited about, or put the effort into seeing a shite basketball team playing an interchangeable game at its 30th home game? And when you miss that, what reason do you have to see the 31st home game, or 32nd?

Big screen at home and game on TV? Yup.

ETA: Last NBA season ended June 21st, this season started October 30th. Its back before you realize it was even gone.

I guess this was posted because the NBA has become a bigger national TV draw than MLB?
