This is just the freshman highlights

he had some good highlights at LSU. Given enough room he could run some what fast, if not blazing, in the open field. Of course their are probably 10-20 other players on the team that could do the same thing.

Check rivals, NONE of the 2009 dual threat Qbs amounted to anything except Geno Smith....2010 basically the same thing..so what happened to RS at LSU basically happened to every other dual threat QB at the school they chose

He averaged over 7 ypc over his career at LSU. Explain that away

He had one rush for -8, no receiving catches, no punt returns, and no KO returns for a team that scored 3 points in a fricking all star game.

Explain that away.

RS is a cool dude who couldn't produce in college as he did in high school. Just like 10,000 RS like dudes have done before him.

Get over it.

NO, but maybe at a La Tech or N Texas St. he could have gotton the PT he needed to truely develop his WR skills.

Lol. The guys the number 1 recruit in the country. He could have excelled at many top tier programs. Your post is ridiculous. It's likening someone like Mingo choosing to go to the cfl next year. Les miles did Shep a diservice. No one knows what'd he'd be somewhere else. Even without the hype, our putrid offense needed something. If its either the short sided option or Shep, ill take Shep. The Miles loyalists, however, would likely keep with the short sided option.

equating Shep to Mingo is whats ridiculous. Like someone said earlier, there are 10,000 recruits every year whose talents don't really transfer from the high school level over to the college level. If he would have been a 3 star coming out of high school no one would be talking this shite about him. He was just overrated by the recruiting services. It happens. Take away the unrealistically high expectations created by the recruiting services and people would not be thinking he was under utilized at LSU. He was a solid if unspectacular player. He outperformed his physical limitations.

At a school like La Tech or ULL I think he may have been a starter, although I'm not sure who they had at WR. He was a very unpolished player that also needed a lot of work in the weight room coming in. He made big strides here. I think he could have made more at a smaller school just due to the talent that is more developed and ready to play WR at larger schools.

Shep is a classic "change-of-pace" guy. He certainly wasn't the Pat White I thought we had recruited. A truly multiple and cohesive offense would have utilized his skills more effectively. LSU has not really had that for more than 2/3 games in a row since 2007. Had he played at a fast-paced consistently competent offense outside the SEC he would have been a much bigger threat. But he was never going to be what we expected when he committed.

re: RS10 getting good reviews at allstar

You know, at the start of this thread, we had people using the fact that Shep was getting good reviews as a slam against Miles. Shep didn't have a big game, even though I hoped he would, but where did the arguments against Les go?

I mean, a former player, that every fan hoped to see more of, got rave reviews at practice. Obviously Miles sucks.

This is not a slam on Shep. I hope the guy goes to the nfl and has a great career, I was hoping he would have a great game. He has more talent in his little finger than I have in my whole body. If he gets drafted I will big his biggest fan. Unless he goes to the falcons.

Just saying, rave reviews for a former player shouldn't be ammunition against Miles, like some here hope it should be.

Well, when your agenda is to knock a coach with any means possible, this is what you get.

Lets hope RS gets another chance to shine. I'm more concerned bout his post LSU career than the ammunition that shining would give the little faith guys to lose more of their water.

[quote]Haven't we done Shep to death? He will not make it in the NFL. With all of his speed and elusiveness[/quote

Actually, he's not that fast or elusive. He got ran down from behind by players that outweigh him by 25-30 lbs.

It's a shame for someone like Shep, who likely would have been an All American if he attended another university with even the most moderately competent of offensive minds calling the plays.

You're fricking stupid and clearly don't know shite about football.

Bruh, I love Shep, but he isn't really fast( got ran down numerous times by larger players), he has ZERO ELUSIVENESS( he rarely juked anyone), he had nearly zero yards after contact, wasn't a good route runner, and has below avg hands. He would not have done any diff

The argument against Les will pop again once someone mentions/blogs/tweets that Shep looks good at the NFL combine/pro day/training camp/wherever. Jarrett Lee was the ammunition around this time last year and he ended up completely out of football. This year is about Shep. Next year, the complaints will probably be about Jarrett Fobbs or Armand Williams didn't get utilized. I hate this time of year.

re: RS10 getting good reviews at allstar

Honestly, I really can't believe there are still multi page threads about how good RS really was "if only......".

I'm sure RS is a great kid. There's been no indication otherwise.

I've also seen virtually nothing on the field to justify his 5 star rating. Has he had a few nice runs? Yeah. So have literally HUNDREDS of other perfectly good athletes who have played college. Beyond that, the guy I saw on the field has VERY limited shiftiness. Virtually no vision. And, can be brought down by basically anyone who gets their hands on him. Oh, and he is a VERY average pass catcher.

RS is a very good athlete. It just turns out that he wasn't as good as advertised.

You'd think that anyone watching college football for a decent amount of time would be able to wrap their brain around the fact that sometimes, 5 star guys aren't all that was expected. Hell, it is COMMON that this happens.

Why do people seem to damned personally attached to it?

re: RS10 getting good reviews at allstar

Some folks like to hang on to the 5-star status as if it is what truly defines an elite player. Recruiting services do a pretty good job of classifying a good number of blue chips but they also have their fair share of misses. There have been plenty of guys such as Garret Gilbert, Chris Galippo, Marc Tyler, Marcus Vick, Willie Williams, Arthur Brown, Mitch Mustain, Darrell Scott, etc who have never lived up to their hype. Even a guy who is considered an offensive genius such as Kevin Sumlin hardly utilized Christine Michael who was a 5-star recruit. He received absolutely no playing time in their bowl game against Oklahoma even though he was healthy and there were no talks of suspension. Some high profile guys either cannot develop beyond the high school level, cannot behave, or just don't fit into a system.

this has got to be the dumbest post I've seen in a while. Let me ask you a question DA. Do you honestly think CLM is a decent evaluator of offensive skill players with his offensive record? Russell Shepard made the worst possible decision of his young life in coming to LSU. He would've been a superstar at Oregon

LSUeddie, if you're right he'll kill it in the NFL. I'll save you the wait, he won't. I read an article this morning (no link bc IDGAF) that described RS' performance in the senior game. It said he did next to nothing, but he got the ball on a reverse with the long sought chance to throw it!! However, he tripped and fell and lost yardage. A perfect metaphor for his career!

If he would've thrown for a 15 yard completion, there would be threads all over the rant about how he could've been the next Michael Vick if he had been properly utilized.
