If our economy fails, then none of the social arguments matter. 80/20 rule.

DC loves distractions from the real issues, err, I mean talking about guns.

The only reason these social issues can even be considered is due to our economic prowress.

Social issues can always be considered And they're not completely disconnected from economic issues How many rights do you think we can take away before it starts to hurt us economically?

No one will take your guns if these discussions stop and leaders focus on fixing the economy, namely, the entitlement programs that use two thirds of the budget. Gun reform is a tiny issue compared to the real problems that impact our country's ability to prosper.

1. I don't consider subverting the 2nd amendment a 'social argument.' 2. I can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I see now. You're under the impression that there's still hope. It's inevitable lynx. It's going to fail because its founded on nothing but the integrity of a nation that can't curb it's own spending, still refuses to and has not intention but racking up more debt and more interest payments which results in less to go to programs, which results in more debt, and more interest payments, and so on. Until you tell the irresponsible spender that they are cut off, they will keep maxing out credit cards. We reelected the same people who helped create this mess. They have demonstrated without a shadow of a doubt that they simply do not learn from their own or previous mistakes, nor do they learn from the mistakes of others they shake their fingers at. They're not going to magically become responsible stewards of our money while we sleep tonight. They have to learn and relearn the way most of us do. The hard way.

I'm self employed. I can take care of my own financial success or failure. The Constitution says you have the pursuit to happiness. Doesn't guarantee it or says its the govts responsibility. Life is hard, its harder when you're stupid. (Not saying you specific). I will be concerned about what rights the govt is attempting to take away, politically. And be responsible for myself in economic ways.

If you think I am talking about your self employment, then you are completely missing the point. This is all about macro economics and our country's ability to maintain economic prowess relative to the rest of the world. Gun rights are petty compared to the US going into 30 Trillion in debt, having hyperinflation, not being able to pay our liabilities, having interest eat away at 100% of the government budget, losing our status as the reserve currency of the world, etc. If the above happens, then empire has fallen. If you stop the above from happening, then you should have a conversation on gun rights. So, maintain the status quo on gun rights until you solve the fiscal issues. All attention should be on maintaining our country's ability to compete...nothing else.

During the Republican primaries, I would get shouted down every time I brought up a candidate's stance on anything other than the economy. Foreign policy, social issues, liberty interests, etc? frick no. We didn't have time for that. All we had time for was the economy. Every second spent talking about something other than the economy was wasted. After it, those were other people's rights were we talking about. Who has time for that? Now that the darling "right" of the Republican Party is in the cross-hairs, all of a sudden, they have time to consider issues other than the economy. It's amazing.
