Can you say with 100% certainty that Muslims who despise Western culture haven't become more hostile to us because of homosexual marriage? I can claim that homosexual marriage is one of the grievances used by Muslims to incite their terrorist attacks, and those have surely harmed society. Or do you like the Patriot Act and other laws passed to fight the War on Terror?

How about changes in the curricula of public schools that do not permit parents to opt out their elementary school children from classes when homosexual related matter is taught. That is nothing more than mandatory indoctrination for public school children. The only recourse for parents who object is to send their children to private schools or to home school their children.

The second thing we call you to, is to stop your oppression, lies, immorality and debauchery that has spread among you. We call you to be a people of manners, principles, honour, and purity; to reject the immoral acts of fornication, homosexuality, intoxicants, gambling's, and trading with interest.
Osama bin Laden's Letter to the American People. Tolerance for homosexuality was important enough for him to use it as a justification for his war with America. Who is the fricking idiot now?

Why should Republicans abandon their belief in traditions that have served society well for millenia? Prior to 2001, when Netherlands legalized the practice, there wasn't any society on Earth that approved of homosexual marriage. I'd rather err on the side of caution, and thousands of years of experience, than rely on 12 years worth of limited experience when it comes to an issue that has so dramatic an imnpact on society.

no really

and this is why the republican party got it's arse kicked...yet again.

Since 2000, eleven countries (Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden) and several sub-national jurisdictions (parts of Brazil, Mexico and the United States) have begun to allow same-sex couples to marry. Bills legalizing same-sex marriage have been proposed, are pending, or have passed at least one legislative house in Uruguay, France, Colombia, the United Kingdom, Finland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, and Taiwan as well as in the legislatures of several sub-national jurisdictions (in Scotland as well as parts of Australia, Mexico, and the United States).

Flawless logic IMO

re: Republicans need to abandon social issues...

A fundamental change in policies that relate to families will take longer than 12 years to demostrate its effects. A generation is viewed as 17 years, so there isn't even one generation's worth of data to analyze. And the combined populations of the countries that have legalized same sex marriage represent only a small minority of humanity. South Africa is the largest country, populationwise, to legalize same sex marriage and it has about 52 million people.

People presume that all change is progress, but that is not necessarily correct. How did collectivism work out for the Soviet Union or China?

GOP out west and elsewhere are already doing that. Look at the NYC GOP mayoral primary and Los angelese mayor race. San Diego is another example.

ha read bellow.

quote:

Something similar also happened in the state of Massachusetts. Catholic Charities of Boston was forced to shut down unless it agreed to place children with homosexuals. New state licensing laws in 2006 required that Catholic agencies facilitate adoptions for same-sex couples. According to an article by Father Robert J. Carr, in a joint statement, bishops from four Catholic dioceses in Massachusetts said, ". . . if Catholic agencies were required to help same-sex couples adopt children in violation of church teaching prohibiting the practice it would present 'a serious pastoral problem' and threaten religious freedom."

fricking this, although they really need work on the fiscal responsibility part. Both parties are god-awful in that regard.

Democrats don't run on a "small government" platform. I expect Democrats to support huge, totalitarian oligarchies.

re: Republicans need to abandon social issues...

My opinion is that social issues are state issues not federal issues. The Dems do a great job of making social issues a national narrative and vilifying R candidates as extremist when in reality the President has very little control on social issues.

Take gay marriage in California for example. The people of the state voted AGAINST it and those upset with the result tried to have it overturned in court.

If I remember correctly, the Louisiana abortion laws at one point were the toughest in the nation. Washington did not approve and threatened to withhold funding. Same thing happened with the drinking age.

The problem is that States have lost some power and control on social issues if they don't align with those in Washington who control the spending.

You are. He's dead and probably had sex with another man in a cave after writing that.
