Republicans need to abandon social issues...

...like gay marriage and shite. But isn't the Democrats' fervor for gun bans the same thing?

If they abandon them who is going to take the issue and run with it? In my opinion you always need a pro and con for every issue. If Reps give up and adopt the Dems issues what is the difference between the two. They both suck in general but have their differences so that you and I can vote against each other.

I agree. Just have a general statement in the platform leaving social issues as states rights issues and leave it at that.

Similar but the Dems have a Teflon coating aka MSM supporting them.

Republicans have abandoned social issues and have tried to be more like Democrats. And what has the trend towards the left brought them? They are an irrelevant party that might go into extinction because they've alienated the one group that always supported them.

The difference is that Democrats abandoned the gun issue on the advice of Bill Clinton after getting burned one too many times in elections. The Democrats are paying lip service to the issue now because of Sandy Hook, but when it comes time to vote, the rural state Democrats are going to break rank.

This is coming from Paul Ryan and Newt to quiet the Tea Party and get the Republicans elected.

"Don't think about, or use, the term "rape" in any discussion with a reporter."

Tea Party said they will not be silenced.

This would actually be the smartest thing the GOP could do.

Why should Republicans abandon their belief in traditions that have served society well for millenia? Prior to 2001, when Netherlands legalized the practice, there wasn't any society on Earth that approved of homosexual marriage. I'd rather err on the side of caution, and thousands of years of experience, than rely on 12 years worth of limited experience when it comes to an issue that has so dramatic an imnpact on society.

I don't think a same sex married couple could slaughter 20 children and 6 teachers, do you?

Gay marriage will not harm society nearly as much as your protectionist, short-sighted beliefs.

Only if they ever want to win a national election again. Otherwise, they can hold on to gay marriage and abortion as their line in the sand issues and keep lose. Swing voters and women hate that white republican men want to control their bodies.

Nobody gives a shite if gays are married anymore, except fundamentalist religious people who think it's a sin. Deal with it.

Follow the separation of church and state and you will be fine. There have never been any restrictions put on church religions. Where political parties fail is when they force certain religious view points onto all people.

Massachusetts has had gay marriage for nine years now. What kind of dramatic impact has it had on society?? Do tell...

I think they should either completely get behind gay marriage or be completely indifferent to it. They can't abandon shite though. It one of their core principles. But this is the Republican party we're talking about. They'll never do anything that makes any damn sense.

re: Republicans need to abandon social issues...

quote:

For thousands of years, people believed: The Earth was flat
Conceptually that is an easy conclusion to draw. Do you think of where a road takes you in terms of where on the surface of a sphere or in terms of where on a flat surface, i.e. map? You know the Earth is round, but your mind takes the simpler approach, and still thinks in terms of a flat Earth. It was reasonable for those without the equipment to study the matter to conclude that the Earth was flat.

quote:

We were the center of the universe
We believed we were the center spiritually and physically? Are you claiming mankind does not still consider itself to be the center of the universe spiritually?

quote:

There were witches
Some claim to be witches still, and their numbers are increasing.

quote:

The sun revolved around the Earth
Isn't science a wonderful thing that it can prove physical relationships between objects in space.
This falls into the same category as your first observation.

quote:

Gay marriage will not harm society nearly as much as your protectionist, short-sighted beliefs.
Unfortunately, this is just your opinion. The first country to legalize homosexual marriage did so in 2001. Can you say with 100% certainty that Muslims who despise Western culture haven't become more hostile to us because of homosexual marriage? I can claim that homosexual marriage is one of the grievances used by Muslims to incite their terrorist attacks, and those have surely harmed society. Or do you like the Patriot Act and other laws passed to fight the War on Terror?

I glanced at your user name and thought at first it was 'skinny douche.' The post above only reinforced that error.
