James, he did it for a longer period than Minter did.

Al Richardson has 3 of the Top 7 tackling seasons ever at LSU, and is the career record holder for tackles (an amazing 452 tackles). 1. 154--- Bradie James....................................................................2002 2. 150--- Al Richardson................................................................... 1981 3. 144--- Lawrence Williams.......................................................... 1981 4. 129--- Al Richardson...................................................................1980 5. 123--- Lawrence Williams..........................................................1982 6. 122--- Steve Cassidy................................................................... 1975 7. 121--- Al Richardson...................................................................1982

It's crazy to think of what Brooks could have accomplished without that injury, and all that he did do even after it. Sort of like Cannon getting injured with the Raiders and still making All-Pro at TE.

yikes, I'd never heard of him. is the 150 including bowl games? bowl game stats weren't factored into season totals until 01 or 02.

Not a single one from la since james. Testament to why i believe its harder to recruit at lsu than people think. You cant field a team that will compete in the west with la talent a lone.

Michael Brooks is the best linebacker I've seen at LSU and it's not that close.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to argue against Brooks being the best LB in modern LSU history.

Michael Brooks is the best LB in LSU history and its not close. Gotta give props to Al Richardson and Toby Caston both were tacking machines.

Regarding Brooks, I was at the '86 Tx A&M game when Hodson made his debut. The real star of that game was Brooks, he had something like 13 tackles, 3 behind the line including 2 QB sacks, and an interception returned for a touchdown. He was National Player of the week for that game. And he not gotten injured, he would have beaten Boswell for defensive player of the year. (The stats quoted are as I remember, not necessarily actual numbers.) What a player, though.

Nope. He did that in 11 games too, not in 12 game seasons with a 13th game being the bowl.

That game has THE oldest box score currently available at LSUSports.net: LINK. Hodson, 15-21, 193 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT Brooks, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 36-yd INT return for TD Arnsparger's scheme for that game appeared to gear most of the tackles toward Hazard & Caston, but not a bad memory, Hoodatt. Player quotes... Michael Brooks, OLB: "I'm very excited. A&M came in doing a lot of bragging. Everybody knows now that we don't have to depend on just our defense. Our offense can now carry the load as well. ... We did a lot of blitzing and we contained the quarterback real well." As for Hodson, not a bad debut for a freshman QB on the road against the #7 team in the country. But that's why he was the only 4 time All-SEC QB in history.

Mingo was a linebacker in high school. Coaches made the right decision, obviously, but I feel wherever he played he would have balled.

In three years the best three LBs in LSU history will be 1) Mike Brooks by a wide margin 2) Debo Jones - you'll see 3) Kevin Minter - The last four games of 2011 and the entire 2012 season were the best MLB play I've ever seen at LSU. Way better than Bradie James who was a very good MLB
