Wonder why the dog responds to bells and goes to mass? Could it be because it knows people are there that will feed it? Didn't someone named Pavlov do this experiment decades ago?

I talked to my mom the other day and our family dog (a dachshund) that we've had for 16 years is dying. The other dog won't leave his side. Dogs rule

Actually it says people around town feed and water it. When it goes to Mass it just sits there in silence and, for some reason, I don't think the Priest has a doggie-buffet consisting of all you can eat wine and wafers waiting for it. And I guess you overlooked the numerous other examples that exist where dogs wait for/guard their owners, deceased or not, for years? Look it up.

We lost our daschund a couple of months ago....dude was 16 years old to the exact day. It killed us to lose him but the fact that he died on his b-day sucked pretty bad. We always cooked him chicken on his b-day.....I never cried so hard in my life as I did that morning knowing that I was cooking his last piece of chicken. RIP My old friend StinkDog12!

The day before my lab died, he and i sat on the back deck and i fed him pancakes for breakfast. I cried my eyes out knowing it would be the last time. I love the hell out of my dogs.

I've only seen my dad cry twice in my life. One was at the funeral of his best friend, and the second was when we brought our lab to be put down, then home to bury him. My poor dad, he has had to be the one to take all our dogs to be put down. I really hope their dachshund goes naturally, it would be a nice break for him

I can empathize. I was the one that had to tell the vet to put our GSD, who was only 5, down when he was dying. The worst part was that it was completely out of the blue. That morning and afternoon he was fine, but by the evening I was standing there telling the vet to put him down. I didn't cry during the whole thing. The tears came when I was lying in bed alone and I let it finally hit me. Dogs are fricking awesome. Better than most people.

Why is this the first thread I opened? This video got me on YouTube. Kinda graphic/NSFW, but I felt terrible for the little dog. Wonder what happened to him/her after the morgue truck left?

stories like this make me wonder how some people forgive michael vick and say "he has been rehabilitated and paid his dues". the dude tortured and killed innocent dogs. these animals are nothing but loyal and loving, i definitely like my dogs more than 99% of all humans i've interacted with.
