Jay Carney, Whitehouse spokesman, just issued the following statement for immediate release.
Upon learning about the fake internet leukemia death of Manti T'eo's girlfriend President Obama has agreed to provide the Center for Disease Control with a grant of $1 Billion to study the prevention of fake internet leukemia.
The President is quoted as saying "If we can save the life of one person the funding will be a success".
ETA: The President was later quoted as saying, "I can relate to Manti because my birth certificate and college records died of fake internet leukemia as well"

I am more than happy to laugh at our president, but I must agree with this assessment. Better to have tried and failed, though, than never to have tried at all.
