Socialist states and monarchies rule by force.
It's a lot harder to force citizens to comply when they are armed.
King Barack I wants a hybrid monarchy/socialist state so he can issue orders by decree.

man it sucks that conservatives turned the word progressive into a dirty word because having a progressive society is a very good thing.

What is your definition of progressive?
The progressives I know think it means to move toward a collective society and give up liberty and freedoms to the state in exchange for state provided security.

Progressive is very subjective, like any political term. "Very good thing" for one may not be for another.
If you are judged by your works, progressives aren't much different than conservatives, they just favor a different set of restrictions.

Exactly. That is what I was getting at. Turning innocent adjectives into proper nouns used to classify a group of individuals is counterproductive to the entire idea of having a free-thinking, enlightened population.
But categorization is an easy way for humans to choose sides, define good vs. evil or right vs. wrong, identify themselves, "win" arguments quickly, take stands without having to think too hard about an issue, and so on and so forth..

Sounds to me like your definition of free-thinking and enlightened is a society full of people who must think exactly like you, and if not they should be sent to a gulag.

Only difference between some of the people who call themselves "progressives" and those who call themselves "liberal" is some "progressives" aren't bleeding heart. Outside of that, most are just rebranded liberals.
