| John Mayer or Dave Matthews? (Posted on 1/16/13 at 4:52 pm)
Who's better? Sparked one for the ages at the office. The first place I thought to go was TD.

I dont even know if I've heard a John Mayer song, but I have a feeling I wouldn't like it... I dont particularly care for the DMB either...

Mayer is a better song writer, and better musician. He writes a few pop songs to help sell his albums, but his "pop" songs are almost always well written, and fairly complex musically. He has remained relevant while changing his style on every one of his albums. He is also a ridiculous guitar player. Even if you think he's a douche, you can't deny his talent as a guitarist.

Wow, bunch of music experts in here. One of the more frustrating things is people not noticing how good this fricking dude is because they think of him only as the guy that sings "Your Body Is a Wonderland". There are many artists/musicians that I might not care for, or like the style of, but I recognize talent when I see it and will respect that person. If you have any bit of an open mind, watch this. Then tell me if he has no talent as a musician. john Mayer - Voodoo Child or fast forward in this a bit and just go to the solo, which has outstanding use of guitar phrasing. And he plays his songs different in some way every time so it's always improv. Slow Dancing In a Burning Room Start it at around the 4:30 minute mark. He destroys damn near any guitarist of this generation. I've been playing guitar since I was a child, and his guitar playing alone makes me respect him along with being a fan. He belongs in a class with Trucks, Frusciante, Bonamassa, Jack White, and a handful of others for the best. Debate the order of which how you want. Can't imagine anyone with any true music background completely putting down either of these guys to be honest, especially Mayer.

If we're talking live, I've seen both, and its Mayer and not close. People are turned off by Mayer's poppy stuff that he uses to make $$$, but the dude can absolutely wail on the guitar.

Not a fan of either, but I'd choose Mayer or DMB any day.
