Someone explain this shite to me. This guy dropped something off in my mailbox one day, I called him and told him to never do that shite again. He didn't mail it, he simply put it in my mailbox.
Anyway, fast forward several weeks and he's in my damn driveway talking to me about leasing my mineral rights. This was a few months ago, and he just showed up at my door again today.
I own a city lot, which is about 0.2 acres. I am not going to strike it rich with oil and/or gas.
Why in the hell is he beating me down to lease my mineral rights out to him/the oil company?

they want to purchase the mineral rights of you and your neighbors. you probably have access or deposits under your property.

Careful. My grandparents had someone do this to them, had the paper work looked at...it was a total scam trying to get them to sign over mineral rights.

have an attorney look over the papers. call the company etc. its its legit...PROFIT then hookers and blow

Right, may be. But even IF I do, it's a minute slice of a pie. Coupled with the fact that even IF I do have minerals that are worth something under my land, wouldn't I be entitled to something directly from the oil company?
This guy is just someone who is trying to get them from me (and all of my neighbors) for next to nothing and he'd reap the benefits, am I correct?
I rather just hold out and see what happens. That's been my strategy so far any way. I don't need $150 that badly.

oil companies hire landmen as the the middle man
have an attorney read over the documents to make sure he isnt trying to screw you, but this is how it works

I did. I took the paperwork and read it over. I threw it away since, but if I remember correctly, it ended up being like he'd pay me $150 then I'd get some ridiculously small portion of some other ridiculously small portion. I calculated it and there is no way it would be worth my while.
