| Bill called "Toughest gun control package in the nation" passed by NY Senate (Posted on 1/15/13 at 6:09 am)
NY Safe Act
quote:
ALBANY, N.Y. – Days after calling for an overhaul of gun control in New York following the Connecticut school shooting, Gov. Andrew Cuomo worked out a tough proposal on gun control with legislative leaders who promised to pass the most restrictive gun law in the nation. The measure passed the Senate 43-18 on the strength of support from Democrats, many of whom previously sponsored the bills that were once blocked by Republicans. The Democrat-led Assembly gaveled out before midnight and planned to take the issue up at 10 a.m. Tuesday. It is expected to pass easily.
quote:
"This is a scourge on society," Cuomo said Monday night, one month after the Newtown, Conn., shooting that took the lives of 20 first graders and six educators. "At what point do you say, `No more innocent loss of life."'
HEADLINE.... An assault weapons ban and registry now equates to "No More Loss of innocent lives". unfreakingbelievablestupidity....
quote:
"All in all, it is a comprehensive, balanced approach that will save lives," Klein said in an interview.
O'rly... Do tell.
quote:
"We haven't saved any lives tonight, except one: the political life of a governor who wants to be president," said Ball who represents part of the Hudson Valley. "We have taken an entire category of firearms that are currently legal that are in the homes of law-abiding, tax paying citizens. ... We are now turning those law-abiding citizens into criminals."
quote:
Under current state law, assault weapons are defined by having two "military rifle" features spelled out in the law. The proposal would reduce that to one feature and include the popular pistol grip.
This just in... Pistol grips on assault rifles are what take innocent lives. Got it
quote:
Ammunition magazines would be restricted to seven bullets, from the current 10, and current owners of higher-capacity magazines would have a year to sell them out of state. An owner caught at home with eight or more bullets in a magazine could face a misdemeanor charge,
well, so much for pretty much every automatic handgun except maybe an easily concealed 380 backup. There is just far too much material in this to dissect. I'll leave some for the rest of you. Have fun. Good times.

From what I gather, it's not the first 7 rounds that take innocent life, but the last 3 or more. But, but, but, but, if you have a pistol grip, all bets are off.

They had 10 round before, that is being reduced to 7. They have 1 year to get ride of larger magazines before they become a felon. This is the reason for no new restrictions, they always want a bit more...

On the upside, all of you who've been looking to get your hands on some guns and magazines that are currently nowhere to be found in the stores, help is on the way.

If they can't have 8+ round mags, I guess they will have to convert to belt feed. No mags, your belt can be 5 rounds to 250, they are custom made by you. Belt conversions

Apparently the bill does not say anything about detachable magazines. Even guns with an internal magazine are a no go...

Which, correct me if I'm wrong, would include an M1 Garand, SKS, and other collectible automatics with or W/O a fixed or detachable magazine. Perhaps even bolt actions with fixed mags that exceed 7 rounds as well?

Notice the hypocrisy? If these guns and magazines are so evil, why would they say they must be sold out of State? Why not destroy them? So, you sell them to some guy in North Carolina, he drives over to NY and starts popping people with his 30 rd mag. It's so stupid. It has nothing to do with safety, it's all about control and a power grab.

Wording from some of the bill:

They went from high cap (30-40 etc) to 10. Now they are going to 7. Next it will be 2 or 3 ie shotgun. Then maybe only one single shot. Then, well there is only one place to go after that. Slowly, little by little. Takes time but before we know it our grandchildren will have a hard time to own a firearm

Yeah a Utopia just like every police state that ever existed. The good people who choose to exercise their rights will have to do it in constant fear of being found out by their neighbors who may want to turn them in. They will have to hide the guns and equipment and keep secret. They might even have to hide the fact they have them from their own children. I can see teachers telling the kids, "If daddy or mommy has a gun that looks like [picture,] be sure and tell your teacher".

We are starting to see the things that communists and dictators use to gain power. Collapsing economy. Charismatic leader. Heavy regulations on gun rights. Government agencies getting bigger and more powerful. Fear of the future among the people. All that is needed now is the big, earth shaking event for all the scared people to look for a leader. Once that happens (like a complete economic collapse) , someone will rise for the people to rally behind. They will sacrifice their rights for a little stability. edit: 1K posts
