| New hand built gun cabinet (Pics Included) (Posted on 1/12/13 at 11:24 pm)
I had posted a while back about building my own gun case just to organize my guns and gun cleaning supplies. Here are some of the pictures of the build. I still haven't decided how i want lock it up. Please suggest ideas. Right now i'm leaning toward adding two dead bolts to either end. Also, i'm waiting on my custom pull to come in. It holds 4 guns and several pistols. Also as a good amount of space for ammo/cleaning supplies.

Thanks guys! How do yall think i should lock it? I was going to just use hasp, but all you have to do to get by those are undo a couple screws and your in. It would be are for someone to get into this quickly as everything on the outside is bolted in from the inside. (as well as the hinges)

You could use nuts and bolts. Most people don't have a socket set on hand to undo something like that. I have been thinking about building one in my attic. I stash all of my guns randomly around the house so if it were to ever get broken into, people wouldn't be able to easily see them. I have some underneath a chest of drawers, one underneath my nightstand, and a couple of long guns under the insulation in my attic. I lost the rest in a tragic push-poll accident in the basin last week. I was gonna go the route of building a case in between the studs in the attic to look like it was some type of structure for the house

Looks nice. A suggestion to keep with the rustic look.. Wrought iron angle for your shelf brackets and maybe a horseshoe for a handle to open it with. You could go with smaller brackets, because of the added strength.

Nice build. I assume you are not thinking this will replace the security of a good safe, correct? Wood is nothing to a thief.

Looks like a walnut stain on it to me. As far as the lock, a simple mailbox style lock may work if he wants something quick and easy. A little routering and a drill hole and he's good to go. Eta- would keep honest folks out..but not someone with a prybar. Could always trim in angle iron though with matte black paint..then a lock, would give a lot more strength and they have to work for it a bit.

Those would probably be gone very soon after a break-in.

Probably hidden from a common thief but let's hope you don't have any sort of fire.

Carriage bolts is an option... if a crook had the time to get those out, he would have the time to destroy the whole box. Nice looking job... Now you have me making plans in my head

I will build one for you. Are you in baton rouge? And yeah, this is just to keep the honest person out. As far as the door, it's made out of cypress fence boards that are stained with a jacobean interior wood finish. The inside is lined with carpet. It was more of a budget build, it only cost me $60. If i had more money i would have bought some nicer shelf brackets. I will be more then glad to build more if people are interested.
