| Here's some economics 101 for you Dems to chew on (Posted on 1/12/13 at 9:33 pm)
So I got my first check of the year on Friday and it looks like with the tax changes and the increase in health insurance I'll be playing with about $500 less a month between my check and my wifes so here's what will happen: I'll call the cable company and go down to a lesser package, cut my cell phone data plan, tell the pest control guy I'll handle it from here, do some of the projects around the house myself instead of hiring someone to do it, not go out to eat as much, pass on the hunting and fishing equipment I'd like to buy, bring my lunch to work more often, wait a little longer to get a newer vehicle, etc. Yeah, just my pulling out of contributing to the local economy won't hurt, but if 40 million others in the country are doing the same, what do you think will happen? The cable company will lay people off, the pest c ontrol guy will go out of business, the waitress at the restaurant will be let go and drop out of school, the carpenter will be out of business and the person I would have bought the vehicle from may lose their place to live cause they couldn't pay the rent or the mortgage. Then they will all go on public assistance to make ends meet. Keep on taxin!

The stimulus package still says Thank You, but work harder. Green energy needs you to do more too.

But, do you not see you are voting against your own best interest??? By the way, I'm giving up my LSU season tickets. Just not worth it anymore. Been in my family since the stadium expansion in the 20s.

Your talking to a wall. For liberals to understand this they would have to think logically. That is impossible because if a liberal thought logically then they wouldn't be a liberal. Logical Liberal = Oxymoron

I've been doing exactly that since the economically illiterate spokesman for the executive branch was reelected.

If I lived in Baton Rouge, I could probably pull that off. Unfortunately, living in Lafayette, I almost have to give some tickets away just to cover games I don't go to. All the damned fees have ruined it for me. I'm a working-class scrub. LSU wants its $$$, but Sec. 303 is losing one of its last wild and crazy die hards.

Dude just buy them and sell the full season ticket package to someone before the season at your exact cost, don't lose any but don't gain any...but you keep the rights. That way if later on down the line you can keep them for yourself again. I guarantee you can set this up with someone, even here on the ticket exchange. It would be awful to give up the tix, you can never get them back

There is no LSU ticket exchange? I've used it for Saints' games and made enough to cover the next year's tickets.

So the reason why our taxes are higher is because the 2% Payroll Tax deduction expired. Obama said that he wanted to keep the tax deduction and the Republicans said they were opposed to any tax increase but obviously the proof is in your higher taxes. Payroll taxes are an extremely regressive taxes in that it hits middle class and lower incomes the hardest as it only affects the first $106,000 of income. Republicans in the past have tried to get rid of the Payroll tax deduction before in the past (which would've raised your tax bill_. LINK So to claim that this is only because of liberals is just seeing half the picture. Both sides just didn't want to fight hard enough to keep the Payroll tax deduction which they both claimed they wanted to keep, which is why your taxes are higher.

I make less than 14,000 per year. They said that taxes won't go up, I assume Payroll taxes. And they haven't, but SS taxes went from 4.2% to 7.9%. I take it to mean that its back to where it was before Bushes tax cut. Still a good trade off. No lying or just not telling all the story like libs usually do?

Payroll taxes are the taxes taxes they take out for SS and Medicare.

I'd do that if I knew them well enough. I wouldn't want seats in my name to go to someone I don't know and trust.

Gusto, another suggestion is to sell them to an alumni chapter from out of state or just the big game ones.

An alumni chapter from Cali, perhaps? Tell you what... y'all have given me some options to consider. I'll think about it and explore a few avenues. Personally, though, I'm a bit torn. I feel like I've been on the ride of a lifetime having followed LSU football from the Hallman years to the powerhouse reign. I sense LSU is about to be on a downslide with Miles and the expanded conference. Plus, it's just not the same with all the high-dollar demands and VIP crap. It doesn't feel like LSU anymore, it feels hoity-toity, which isn't me, or my family history. Maybe I'm just moving on. Oh well, sorry to spew, but it is an emotional dilemma.
