CBO Recommends Savings

Just saw a segment by Cavuto on recommended cuts from the CBO... These are just suggestions as to where we could save some money

Cut:
Non-Defense Spending by 1% a yr = 928B over 10yrs
Defense Spending by 1% a yr = 800B over 10yrs

The total recommendations equals up to over 4T over 10yrs.... So why the frick can't Washington actually do something?

I'm with you, brother. That's what I don't understand about congress.

It would be SO easy to make cuts - not by slashing - but by slowly shrinking the size of government over x period. Rather than laying people off and potentially hurting the economy/recovery, we would basically NOT replace the positions that come open due to retirement, resignation, etc. That's it. NO drama. The labor market can better adjust to these changes over time.

Reasonable people can look at a $16T debt and a $1T annual deficit and agree that reducing budgets by 1 freaking % a year is doable. Of course, our congress is full of shite flinging howler monkeys so.....

I don't understand why the baseline budget increases can't go away. That currently increases the budget automatically ~6-7% per year from the previous budget. That would be a huge savings...

1% isn't shite... But its a damn shame that the Right refuses to touch defense and the Left refuses to touch entitlements...

I think raising of the retirement age for people 15yrs out (don't know what it would be raised to) equated to 200B over 10yrs.

928 + 800 = 1728. Where does the other $2.3 trillion come from?

Still a good idea, but maybe we could make it 2-3% instead. Would also be nice to end blatant waste like ethanol mandates and the failed War on Drugs.

No kidding. The retirement age of 65 was set...what...in the 40s. People were only retired for 5 years before they died. Now they're living on average almost to 80. It's mind blowing that it hasn't been adjusted.

Not really. It would piss some people off and put reps in danger of losing votes. It makes sense. It is stupid...but it makes sense.

But the left says that any cuts need to include more stimulus spending

And then the fricking Right won't touch defense
