| Is LSU football the equivalent to Kentucky basketball? (Posted on 1/12/13 at 10:02 am)
If you look at our team the last few years, we have had the talent to always compete for championships and we are always seeing underclassman enter the draft. Are we a team where great talent can go and almost certainly develop into NFL players. If so, then I guess it has ups and downs as can be seen with UK basketball. They finally won a NC for calipari so the system isn't completely bad for players who come only looking to develop themselves and bolt for the pros...

Haven't thought of it like that. If so I'm ok with it, bc they still have to stay for 3 years

Yes, according to a buddy of mine, that is a great thing for LSU Football!!! LSU now to be known as the program that can get you to the pros by the end of your junior year or 3 years removed from HS, but will never be competative in the SEC or win another national championship!!!

Let's just hope LSU's program doesn't end up on probation like all of Calipari's do.

I'm not certain I like having LSU compared to a John Calipari run program in any form or fashion.

I certainly believe this I live in Lexington and I'm a tiger fan. UK basketball has the same nagging fans like LSU football. I said it before that the fans have already given up on their team this year because of a few losses to solid senior teams. And the amount of pros we have had this year is crazy I believe. Just like UK.

But ole Cal manages to always come out of it without implicating himself because he maintains plausible deniability. And the same will happen at Kentucky as they've had a machine going for decades that takes care of that kind of stuff so the coach can for appearance sake remain distance himself from that stuff. That and Cal's buddy Worl Wide Wes knows his way around the system himself.

I have actually had that same thought - are we attracting and driving more of the 'one and done' mindset? Or maybe all players are basically in that mode if they are fortunate enough to be that good? If we are, that is probably great for raw talent, but has its problems with consistency. Less predictable results, more extreme ups and downs with more mistakes, but flashes of brilliance and some superstars for sure. While I would selfishly love to see all college players stay at least 4 years, I get why many of them take their chance to get paid at the first opportunity. Would be an interesting dynamic if college football (or basketball) could legally pay their players a salary!

How are Kentucky fans reacting to a down year despite their talent

Because of our 45 SEC titles and 8 national championships, yes

LSU basketball is the equivalent to Kentucky football. Many of the same built-in support problems, indifferent attitudes.
