I have a bond issued by the CSA in 1863 for $500.00. Coupons are attached in the amount of $20.00. The coupons can be cashed every six months beginning in 1865. We have the bond framed and it is about an 11/14.
This is not a picture of my bond, but I found this online.

One of the early tidbits of the South succeeding was that Lincoln was not even on the ballot on the states that did ultimately secede and there was quite an uproar that the South had no power if the president could get elected without one single vote from the South.
The reason secession is being brought up again is that the country is so divided many feel that the red states should rule themselves and blue states themselves. It's more of a we live this way and y'all live that way so we will just go our separate ways. Kind of seems more democratic as opposed to forcing others to subscribe to your opposing theory.
