1.0.6 improved the game a lot. I've put more hours in D3 since 1.0.6 since launch, it made it feel like diablo again.
That said, my main issue with the game is lack of progressing. This is all due to the auction house and capping levels at 60. The devs want the game to unfolded like an mmo which it is not. The auction house is the cause of this.
1.0.7 isnt going to bring any huge changes, dueling will be dominated by certain classes. Probably barbs and wizards, they arent going to balance classes for duels. The dev already said no balance will be introduced from duels.
1.0.6 brought PvE back to where it should be the game is fun now. If you want to play PvP wait till the expansion.

I'm still really active. Much more active than launch.
Came back to the game about 1month after MP/PLs and have enjoyed it ever since.

Also start purchasing your PvP gear before hand. I have a feeling All Res and Life Regen will be ridiculous pricey. Don't worry about attack speed and life on hit.

The lack of any type of social envoriment is a real killer. Ppl and friends aren't even in the same chat channels sometimes. You get spooled in at random when logging.
There are 100s of ways the community has suggested what we think are easy fixes.
Crazy part this game has become an Market Sim. I spend more them flipping items on the AH then I do playing the game.
ETA:
This is my want list.
1. PvP duh
2. A zone were you have powers disabled and it is an open world/town where players can find other teammates or just talk about D3, check out other's gear and maybe make new friends to play with.
3. Take away the RMH altogether but allow the ability to purchase gold.
4. Endless dungeon like TL2.

Horrible design decision to repeat the same exact story arc on different difficulty levels.
All Blizzard had to do was update the old Diablo. Reinventing the wheel was neither necessary or desirable.
