He was a baller, for sure. Or should I say, shredder.

Boogie Woogie with a can of Beer

Trust me, as someone who has seen Hendrix, Santana, Townsend and Harrison live, this is one of the finest pickers I have ever seen.

He was a great one, no doubt. He committed suicide, right?

Yeah, and nobody knows why. He didn't leave a note.

Some of his friends speculated that maybe he occasionally had a spell of depression, but, that was just guesswork.

I suppose that he could have suffered from undiagnosed depression. I know that this kind of mental affliction does indeed cause some to take their own lives.

But it is unbelievable to hear him squeeze those tones out of just a Telecaster and amp when he plays Harlem Nocturne. How many guitar players can do that? Few.

He was not only flawless on the guitar. It all seemed so effortless with him.

He left us too soon.

Blasphemy, Roy Buchanan was the master of the Telecaster. Seriously, the people living in the Washington, D.C. area were blessed to have them both playing locally at the same time. Danny and Roy became friends in the 1960's, but the friendship waned when Roy stole Danny's keyboardist.

Interesting that you mentioned Buchanan. Like Gatton, he also committed suicide.

Poodle, visit SpicyStacy's thread here. Not sure how serious she is but she implies she's looking for an accountant and not just free board advice.

Gatton, obviously was heavily Buchanan influenced. He was his own virtuoso, but the influence was there, and very patent.

He was absolutely great, you only need see the caliber of musicians he habitually got to accompany him.

re: Danny Gatton: my favorite guitarist.
I learned about Danny Gatton from Roy Buchanan whom I met backstage at Tulane back in 1977-1978 timeframe. I had just turned Coolidge (RIP) onto Roy via the Loading Zone LP, and I dragged him down to see Roy. Coolidge became a big fan that night even though Roy played only one song from Loading Zone, Green Onions.
