| Tahoe/Yukon vs. Traverse/Acadia (Posted on 1/10/13 at 9:44 pm)
I was considering the purchase of a GMC Acadia, but am now considering either a Tahoe or Yukon. I know the Tahoe and Yukon cost more and get less mpg, but have more room and probably ride better. Anyone with any experiences with these vehicles? Is a Tahoe or Yukon worth the extra cost?

I own two Tahoes: 2011 LTZ and a 2003 LT. I like them both, but I have never test driven the Acadia/Traverse.

If you need more space get Tahoe. If not Acadia is great rig.

ive done a lot of research on this and went to the car show last year and a guy from GMC corporate was there. told him we are a family of 4 and really liked the Yukon and he asked if we had ever looked at the Acadia. He said its a huge misconseption that the Acadia is smaller but they are actually the same length. Yukon sits higher and is more truck like and has oversized chairs/benches and therefore actually has less roomy feel than the Acadia. Acadia has captain chairs in the middle isle and a minivan feel on space. i was very surprised and felt like the Acadia had MORE room than the Tahoe/Yukon and got better gas mileage. now with that being said i personally like the look of the Yukon better and the cars are actually priced about the same. We just test drove a base Acadia 2013 the other day and it was 36k with no extras. They had one with leather and Nav and it was 43k. thats Tahoe/Yukon territory.

oh yeah forgot one thing, we decided against GM because it was a joke what the interior looked like and what you got as far as radio/inside controls. for 45k this is what your interior looks like? its a freaking GM, not that great.

I have a traverse, I'm not a milf, it's a good crossover. I drove everything in its class except Acadia, nothing drove close except Pilot IMO.

My wife has a 2011 Acadia. Rides and drives good and has plenty of room.

My wife drives a 2010 Tahoe LTZ. This is her 2nd Tahoe and before that, drove a suburban. She was considering the acura MDX, but once we looked at the price, decided to get the Tahoe. The loaded out Tahoe was pretty much the same price as the stripped down MDX. We went for more room and bigger engine

I've got a 2007 Yukon and other than little quibbles (like the hydraulics on the tailgate glass going out and having to replace ball joints at 60K miles) I can't see it breaking down or even aging any time soon. It drives great on the highway and with 4x4 and BFG All Terrain tires I get about 16 MPG highway. By comparison my sister drives a 2010 Buick Rendezvous - the Buick version of the Acadia - and hers looks like it's 10 years old. Her seats are all ragged out, the carpet looks like shag and it just feels old (I'm sure her two kids have had an effect). Also, the Yukon doesn't have much room behind the 3rd row seat but the Rendezvous has virtually none. Another bad thing about the Tahoe/Yukon is removing those 3rd row seats. It's insulting how heavy they are (80 lbs each). This is a $50,000 car, fer cryin' out loud. When the ever-so-shitty Ford Expedition has had power folding seats since 2005, GM has no excuse. I'm sure the upcoming 2014 model will fix this.

Ha! You're right. The Rendezvous was their version of the Pontiac Aztec in the early 2000's. My bad. Sister has the Enclave.

The wife and I looked at the Acadia's before getting a Tahoe. The Acadia has almost the same interior dimensions as the Tahoe, except for the 3rd row seat. It actually is the same butt width, but the shoulder space is a little tighter due to the crossover body style if I'm not mistaken. I like the Acadia interior a lot due to the adjustable 2nd row seat that gives the 3rd row seat more room. The reason we went with the Tahoe was because we heard some horror stories from people about the Acadia reliability. Several stories of people we knew, or people who knew people that returned the vehicles as lemons.

I will be surprised if the MDX resale or trade value is not significantly higher than the Tahoe.
