Instead of doing that, just buy a .22 upper.

For those in the NOLA area looking for an AR, American Freedom Firearms has 4 on consignment on the shelf. One was a .308 with an asking price over $3,000. I didn't see what the others were.

Ok, first a little background. I had been saving up for an AR for a little while, but being a college student I wasn't planning on buying one for about another year. Well I stopped by my local Academy 2 days after Sandyhook and they had just received a shipment of AR's, so I dipped into my savings and got it while I could. I bought a Bushmaster .223 optics ready. I got a little ahead of myself buying accessories for it and I know in hindsight that I could have done better. I put an aluminum quad rail handgrip on it but it is heavy as shite. I'm looking for ways to lighten the weight of it. I'm thinking maybe a magpul carbine handgrip and attaching a rail to the lower front portion of it. I'm looking for any suggestions on handgrips and stocks that can lighten it up and be of good quality.

If you want non-floating handguards, you can't beat Magpul. Stocks are very subjective.

Whats the difference between floating/non-floating? As I said, I'm new to this and got ahead of myself. I've dealt with my Glock and a 12 gauge before.

floating just means that the barrel doesn't touch anything after the receiver. Non-floating would mean that the barrel and hand guards are connected/touching at some point. Floating barrels are supposed to be more accurate, but sometimes it doesn't matter if it is floated or not.

Same here. I bought my Windham SRC about two weeks before Sandy Hook. I am very happy with my purchase. The Windham is a well made gun, and I have no complaints.

My Bushmaster has the aluminum quad rails, and personally I like the extra weight. My next one I'm putting some Samson rails on like these.
