You usually only have local property taxes.

re: Jindal: Louisiana Should Get Rid of Income Tax

Well I don't know what to tell you Burt.

I have been in private practice for 5 years now after spending 6 years in internship/residency/fellowship. I know the money that I make now and in the past during my training. My previous institutions made money from my work in excess of what it paid in. You may have your opinion but it doesn't take away from the facts.

And now I pay a lot of money back to our Government for which they redistribute to care for my fellow man. Once again, you are welcome.

If you are a resident, you'd still have to register it in LA, at which time you'd pay the taxes.

No mention of raising property taxes. Sales tax rate of 12% should more than cover the difference from personal income tax. Got to realize that this would drastically add to the tax rolls by adding those that currently don't pay income tax but most definitely buy shite. plus all those that are just passing through.

Does the municipality then pay the State? How the hell does that work? Do you have a state property tax AND a local property tax?

Doesn't matter. As with other things, King Bobby doesn't care about the details. He will leave that to future administrations and legislatures to determine. All he wants to do is make sure the big idea is passed so he can say ,"I did such and such in Louisiana", when he's running for president.

This is just another checkmark on his "How to be Prez-uh-dent" checklist.

are you going to respond to any of the posters that addressed your previous flame...or do you strictly stick to flames?

Doesn't matter.

Really? So if it can be made to work with little to no impact on lower income families, no cuts to already existing programs, and boosts LA's economy generating surplus revenue which can be spent on improving infrastructure, schools, healthcare, etc....then is it still just "King Bobby" not caring?

I think the only one it "doesn't matter" to is you and your short sighted world view.

quote:

Y'all realize that in order to do this, sales taxes will go up, cigarette and alcohol taxes will have to go up; property taxes will have to go WAY up; tuition at public universities will probably double overnight; etc.

road construction and maintenance will become non-existent; How would we pay for prisons, guards, enforcement of drug laws, etc. I could go on.

But of course, on the bright side, tens of thousands of poor people (mostly children, mostly minority) would die every year because of the disappearance of what is left of public healthcare facilities.

Nope. Completely wrong. Look at the Times Pic report... It will be revenue neutral..

State Sales tax is raised 3%... That's it. Property taxes do not rise, tuition doesn't change.

3% man. 3 cents more per dollar you spend.

Also, like other states, the sales tax probably wouldn't apply to basic necessities such as prescription drugs and groceries...

What and I missing here?

What I meant was that it does not matter to Jindal how revenues are forwarded to the state as you asked. Those are details. As with the implementation of his voucher system (how's he gonna pay for that, now, by the way?), he got the big idea passed, before any type of accountability was considered.

Bobby Jindal only cares about being president, and it has been obvious to anyone since the day he took the oath of office.

So what if he wants to be pres! I like most of his ideas! I really like this one. Do you hate his policies or do you hate that he wants to be pres?

If his policies make it more business friendly and comfortable for more businesses to come into Louisiana and in the same token make it less comfortable for those who suck the system dry, I see it as a win win

He made an initial volley and it was swatted down with much alacrity by me and several other posters. It's been ad hominem ever since.

No, my question was directed at another poster that said Texas gets away with it because of high property taxes, which wouldn't fund the state.

I do agree that Bobby Jindal only cares about being president....

They don't go directly to the state. Instead the increased revenue to the municipality offsets the reduced funding coming from the state.

I think it's a terrible policy, because there is no way Jindal will raise other taxes enough to make it "revenue neutral". He wouldn't allow a rise in cigarette taxes, so why would he allow sales taxes to rise? All he has shown that he wants to do is cut taxes to the bone and then poormouth the legislature so most state services, essential or not, are cut. If I hear that he will be willing to realistically raise other forms of revenue, I may reconsider my thoughts, but there is no evidence, in my opinion, that he will.

It should be no surprise that I believe that Jindal would be an absolutely terrible president. I disagree with everything that has ever come out of his mouth. He is an embarrassment to this state as far as I'm concerned.
