Belle finished top 3 in MVP 3xs during that 5 year period. Lead AL in total bases 3 times. Slugging twice. HRs once. RBI twice.
Meh 4 really good slugging season while being a loaf in the field isn't better than what Biggio was doing 20 hr 40 sb .410 OBP as a 2nd basemen.
quote:
Bagwell won an MVP during that 5 year period and finished 3rd another season. He was the best player on the team biggio played for.
1 great season the + 3 generic "steroid era" slugging 1st basemen type years. McGuire probable has a better argument.

so 3xs with stats of low relevance impressive for a guy that played 20 years? Belle played 10 years with more impact

I don't think runs is of low relevance. I also don't think Biggio was a better hitter than Albert Belle... he just had a better career.

He led the league in runs scored two times and also led the league in stolen bases once. Biggio is 15th all-time in runs scored. Out of the top 25 players on the runs scored list, 22 are in the Hall of Fame. The only ones who are not are Derek Jeter (HOF lock), A-Rod (would have been a HOF lock if it wasn't the steroids issue), and Pete Rose (banned for life for gambling). Basically every player on that list were Hall of Famers or had Hall of Fame careers. Biggio should be a lock to get in.

well, its a stat the is determined by how good the players were hitting behind you. and comparing to say MVP's won by Belle or Bagwell or anyone else, and its lower relevance . Or compared to batting tittles or leading the league in hits in which just about every 3,000 hit player have reached or earned.

Over 20 years I think he should be in, but he isnt first ballot (obviously) nor is he better than Chipper

im not totally against his candidacy, but he's not a 1st ballot guy. No way. ETA: and i know thats not what you said. But i guess me thinking him not being at 1st ballot guy would also mean i dont think he is a lock.

Biggio was known to get hit by baseballs and hit for doubles. What's so special about him as a player? If he gets in, Jim Thome should get in.

people are outraged he didnt get in, but Curt Schilling & Edgar Martinez have a better case.

Besides one batting title, Chipper didn't league in any major offensive category either.

well, he won an MVP. And is widely considered one of the 3-4 best switch hitters ever.
