re: 15 year old defends sister/home with AR-15
I thought AR-15 discussions were relegated to the sticky on the OB

Not only did this brave 15-year-old defend his home against 2 burglars, but also his 12-year-old sister who was in the house with him. He grabbed his father’s AR-15 and shot one of the burglars multiple times. They got away but had to go right to the hospital where the minor was arrested and the adult who was shot was flown to a different hospital.

The OP isn't trying to purchase an AR or looking for ammo for an AR or he doesn't have general questions regarding an AR. If this is the case, shouldn't you stay on the SEC OT?

Depends on the state, but states have the "castle" doctrine giving you the right to use deadly force when an intruder is inside your home.

Know this, however: if you are an adult male, the DA could, and probably will, look at the extent of force used, meaning that if there was a way to resolve the problem and protect your family without the use of deadly force but you decided to waste the dude for the hell of it, the DA could press charges. Not very likely in a southern state, but you never know when you'll run into an a-hole DA.

As general rule of thumb, you are not allowed to use deadly force to protect property alone.

not sure about the source's reputation but the news report didn't seem biased to me at all.
