Who cares if you hunt and own a gun.

What really is annoying is the lame attempt by gun control advocates to somehow make it okay to implement further gun control and justify it by saying that additional gun control measures won't interfere with my hunting hobby. This is either a red herring or an attempt to obfuscate the meaning behind the 2nd amendment.

First of all the 1st amendment is in place for the people to express their selves freely without reprisal from the federal government. Second, the second amendment is in place to prevent the federal government from taking our arms and preventing us from forming a militia as an opposing force to the federal government, thus holding them in check. Theses two amendments' sole purpose it to promote peace and stave off violence from the the federal level. They have NOTHING to do with hunting. It has everything to do with checking the federal government.

The hunting meme is simply a tactic in the gun control advocate's strategy to limit the scope of the 2nd amendment thus increasing the federal government's power over your life. THAT IS what Obama and the gun control advocates want, more power. More power for them = less freedom for you.

My right to be secure has already been violated by Obama. I can't get any .223 rounds right now, and that is prior to any new legislation.

I hate Barry.

The second amendment says we have a right to keep and bear arms.

What we do with our guns is our business as long as we obey the laws.

Now can we regulate guns and prevent people from owning weapons that are over the top? That's the only debate I see.

Now defining what is over the top is an entirely different subject, and it needs to be decided and an the way to decide it is to have a constitutional amendment passed as they did with alcohol.

We should have already learned by now that this is to be expected from a big centralized government. History screams it, and the larger it grows the more restriction, regulations, and laws it feels it has to implement in order to keep its populous in check. What big government fears most is its own people. That flies in the face of our founding as a nation, but then again, what does a people who think our founders were a bunch of old rich white men, our constitution outdated, and their words not applicable to today because we're no longer human, care about such rational thought? They don't. They're retarded, and corrupt to their very inner being.

The median and administration is looking to divide the guns owners so that they can pick off the black gun owners. Same tactic that is used for every other agenda, divide and conquer...

Yeah, that alcohol amendment went well.

Seriously, the problem is trying to answer the question from the federal level. This question needs to be answered from a state level. The feds just need to butt out of state issues. Allow New York to limit gun ownership to .22 lever action rifles, however at the same time butt out of Texas' business were they will allow fully automatic weapons. With this, left wing New York and right wing Texas will both be satisfied.

It's called federalism. Let the states interpret the scope of the second amendment. After all, federal authority is derived from the states first.

This isn't workable. What's to stop someone from buying a gun in a neighboring state and bringing it into a state that prohibits that gun? It's like DC trying to outlaw handguns while handguns are available in all of Virginia. Hell, you could take a bus from DC to a gunshop in Va, buy the gun, put it in a bag, get back on the bus and go home to DC. Same thing is happening in Chicago.

Banning guns in particular areas only means that the law-abiders will not have the guns while criminals will.

Criminals will anyway even with a nationwide ban, the guns Obama pumped into Mexico would be an example, guns will flow into the US via smuggling.

Well clearly, and so let them learn the hard way as they usually do.

Exactly why a gun amendment has to be a smart tool, not a hammer. I don't know if it is even possible to right one, but I think most people do not care of their neighbor has a rifle or pistol that can be used for protection, but most would frown on their neighbor having a machine gun.

It needs to be a const. amendment for this reason, guns are protected by the constitution. We need the Feds to define what arms we should be allowed keep and bare. That's the argument, not the right to keep and bare.

That argument must be decided by a Const. Amendment.

Unless you have license to own a fully automatic machine gun, that's already illegal. What's being discussed here is simply semi automatic weapons and clips. Give them an inch and they will take a mile because its not about one particular argument, but the end result being accomplished of a complete gun ban, a slow and methodical chipping away and erosion. Liberals for all their sick decay have perfected that. They are patient, and are counting on generations to die off and the unprincipled village idiots to fall in line, which they will one day.

The state law. I'm not saying that people won't break the law but the law will be in place to prosecute the law breakers. BTW, people break laws all the time, local, state and federal. It's not like a federal law will prevent from people from breaking the law.

I agree. That's why states and locales shouldn't ban them.

You have that backwards. The feds gets their authority from the states. Amendments to the Constitution have to be ratified by 38 states (3/4ths) to become law, thus the states define the scope of any new amendments.

My neighbor having an automatic weapon would not concern me one bit. In fact, I might appreciate it and for all I know some of my neighbors have automatic weapons already.

Exactly, so what's the point? Local ban/nationwide ban, neither works. Banning goods and services in a free society is just a bad idea from the git-go. It never achieves the desired result, and usually just ends up as a government price support in the black market.

Why does everyone assume the Military and Police will be on Obama's side and follow orders to confiscate guns IF it every becomes a law?

I said machine gun, not automatic weapon.

Defining what is over the top as I stated before needs to be debated, but while you might find consolation in people in your neighborhood having any kind of gun imaginable; I do not.

It's not the weapon, it goes to gun safety, training, security of the weapons, etc.

If my neighbor had proper security, was well trained and of sound mind; I wouldn't care if he had a tank in his garage.

Well, Obama is the Commander-in-chief and the military and police are supposed to carry out his orders. However if it comes down to gun confiscation, I hope the military and police defy those orders and join the side of liberty.

Well, I agree. I'm not against firearms education and training. In fact, it could be argued that firearms education and training strengthens the 2nd amendment.
