Very independent local production about squatters in the Mississippi Delta during a big hurricane.
Fantasy film through a young girl's perspective, but very gritty.
Excellent movie and I'm thrilled it's getting such recognition.
Great for independent Louisiana filmmakers.

A few surprises in there, but nothing shocking. I've actually only seen two of the Best Picture nominees (Beasts and Django), but I'm hoping to catch three more before the Awards (Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, and Argo).

Disagree. Ben Affleck's directing snub for Argo is probably one of the biggest snubs in a very long time.
He and Spielberg were considered the frontrunners up until this morning.

Agreed. Ben Affleck can't catch a break from breaking his reputation as a shitty actor and someone who had little to nothing in writing Good Will Hunting, when he is currently proving himself as a fine filmmaker at this point.

Have you even seen it? It's a great movie. And I think it's between Silver Linings Playbook and Lincoln for Best Picture. Sure, Life of Pi got the second most nominations (11), but it isn't the kind of film that usually wins Best Picture. It's a technical triumph that will more than likely go the way Hugo went last year.

I really hope Lincoln doesn't get it. Maybe I was expecting an entirely different film, like the life of Abe Lincoln, but really the film should have been called the 13th Ammendment. Really like "The Life of Pi", and really want to see Silver Lining Playbook.
