I will not give up my 2nd amendment rights. I will not let an elite disarm me. I realize that this makes me sound like a nut. But I will not give up my right to defend myself. You can talk all you want about the second amendment being about hunters or a militia, that's bull shite. Any decent research will show you the second amendment was about the people being able to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. I hope you will forgive me if I don't let myself be disarmed. It kills me to watch reporters report on the war in Syria and then talk about giving up the right to bear arms if the people in Syria had been armed they wouldn't' have taken so long to over through there oppressive government. you might say that could never happen in America well I'd say it hasn't happened here because the American people cha shoot back.

To you the reason for the 2nd is hunting correct? If that is true then why does it take a LICENSE to hunt in every state, and a federal license to hunt migratory birds? BTW there isn't an altar of guns, but there is one for God given rights which the citizens of America demanded to be included in the Costitution as end all and be all shackles on the power of the govt.

If the fed wants them (they don't) you will give 'em up. My father in law told me while he was dying of lung cancer that he would never give up smoking....but he did a dew days later when he passed away. He hasn't smoked since....and you will be the same way with your guns. As soon as someone at some level decides it is problematic for you to possess them they will do whatever is necessary to make the problem go away. You stand 0 chance of winning a stand off with the government. It ain't happening and you ain't gonna find enough people to stand with you because there ain't enough given the entire US population to do so successfully without the assistance of the Military...and they ain't on your side, and if they were you wouldn't need your guns in the first place. I think someone has just seen the remake of "Red Dawn" and is full of the spirit, but at the end of the day you will give up your sacred guns if the Govt decides they want them.

God given the right to defend yourself and your family in a manner that is the equal of the force being brought to the fore against you. In 1776 it was flintlocks, those rifles were included within the concept of the 2nd, today the po-po(people that make many mistakes) and the criminal element have access to semi-autos, and other firearms that George W did not imagine possible. HOw come no reponse to my earlier post? The 2nd is not for hunting, and it never was about hunting.

Exactly. A lot of people like to talk tough, but when it comes down to it they will cave.

Just a quick question. Clearly, the gun control and/or confiscation issue is our current cause celebere, albeit mostly based upon paranoia and a non-existent threat. What's the over/under on the average number of these threads for the next month?

To be fair, "gun confiscation" has been put out there publicly by some of the loons on the left. If this board weren't made up of 18-30 year old southern white males I doubt you'd have as much talk about it.
Just as I'm sure "legitimate rape" and other contraception topics were booming on DU and dailykos. Just the talk of that nonsense gets people riled up

Wrong, the Constitution doesn't grant us our rights, it protects the rights we already had.
Consider:
Congress shall make no law ...abridging the freedom of speech
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed
The right of the people to be secure in their persons...shall not be violated
Do you see how the document recognizes these rights as pre-existing and doesn't actually grant these rights?
