Red beans in fifteen minutes. And you can't tell the difference than if they had been cooking all day. Any dried peas or beans work very well. A good tender chuck pot roast in about forty five minutes. And my wife does it not me. I stay out of the kitchen when that thing starts hissing at me.

I've always been afraid of them, but I've heard the current generation of pressure cooker is very good. Post pics once you try out some recipes!

This is the one I just bought. It's not supposed to hiss. We'll see.

I've never cooked in one. Like Darla, they were somewhat scary to me when my Mom took hers out. Never thought about getting one. I'd like to know more about them.

Sometimes when I don't want to smoke ribs, I'll throw them in there (the pressure cooker) for 20 minutes, and finish them off on the grill tender ribs in about 45 min.

Love them, but the gasket in mine is bad...got to go shopping. They're great for tenderizing meats to go into stews, like squirrel and duck.

My GF cooked some artichokes in one last night, but I don't know what else we can cook in it. I look at it as a worthless kitchen tool, but some people may think differently.

Wild game is also great in a pressure cooker. Like said above, theyre really good at tenderizing meat when you're low on time. Good luck doc.

I have an electric one that is smallish. I can make a beef stew or dry beans to cooked beans in under an hour. I have my eye on a 15.5 quart. It can be used for canning, even though I have never done that. Supposedly, you can make a rich stock in just a couple hours in one. For my gumbo, that would be priceless.

That pressure cooker can toil away at menial chores and tasks.... OR: You can thread the top vent and run copper tubing through it and turn it into something magical..... A Still...... My mother has never forgiven me for transforming that lowly kitchen tool into a distiller of the finest nectar of the gods....

Explain... I'm sure my GF would love if I did this to her pressure cooker.

The pressure cooker has a sealed lid. The lid has a pressure release valve. Replace valve with a threaded fitting that accepts a copper coil. Boil your mash, condenses through the coils. White Lighting drips out the end. The wfdt has Geauxt in it, and I am trying to cajole a recipe from him. I haven't made any in a Looooooooooooooooooong time. Need some pointers. I guess I could google.

My mother used to make the best stew in hers. Dust stew meat with salt, pepper and flour, brown VERY well. Add water, chopped onion, chunks of large peeled red potatoes and chunks of carrots. That's it. Talk about good!
