Bourbon drinkers, has anyone tried the Jefferson's 18 year Presidential Select? This stuff is incredible. I've never had Pappy 15 or 23 but I would out this up there with Pappy 12 year Lot B and Pappy 20.

Just finished a bottle of the Jefferson 18. Definitely one of my favorites.

Mark my words...this will become the new Pappy the next few years when PVW gets too hard to find... And yes, I got another bottle of it for Christmas...just about as good as it gets, and though pricey, not an outrageous price tag ETA: Not up there with Pappy 20, but not too far below

JP 18 is fantastic. It's below the PVW 15-20 IMO, but not far. I actually prefer the JP 17. A little more my taste.

There are two more at my local ABC store. I might go buy them while I can still find the stuff.

The JP is definitely a lot more easy to procure than PVW. I've seen it at several locations. I've seen a few places selling it for >$100 and I just , but, both the 17 & 18 are generally under $100. I finished my last bottle of JP 17 and never bought another. I need to, but over the holidays I was on a bourbon stock piling binge, so I might wait a couple months before I start buying again. I say that, but I'll pass by the bourbon section next weekend and be like, hmmm, ok I'll just get one more . It will probably be this though. I've read good things on here and other sites and I've been wanting to try:

Let's talk Ryes. I had the unexpected pleasure to find the Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye yesterday at happy hour. I asked for Bulleit Rye in my Old Fashioned and the bartender said the only Rye they had was Van Winkle. I canceled the Old Fashioned and ordered a glass neat, for $20. Although it was a stingy pour the whiskey was great. Very similar to the 12 year Van Winkle with more pepper - for lack of better adjectives. I was so excited about it I left happy hour and bought a bottle of Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye to compare the two. They couldn't be more different. The Handy is unnervingly sweet for its potency, but you will feel the 127 proof in your esophagus. I'm very happy with it.

I got a bottle of the Thomas Handy at Christmas. I thought Rye must be an acquired taste as the Handy was too much for me without some ice and water. I may have to try a few others if you noted different flavor from Van Winkle.

It may have helped my perception that it was my 4th whiskey drink of the evening, but I thought it was fantastic. Much different from the Van Winkle, which is "only" 95.5 proof. I hear the Rittenhouse Rye is a good cheap one to try, and for a bit more $ the High West Rendezvous Rye is one that gets a lot of praise.

Never had Wathen's, but that pour is tarnished with water and bad ice.

actually no water. Just bad ice. Its a very light bourbon and it sat fir about 10 minutes while i was on phone too. Using spare freezer ice. My kitchen ice maker decided it wanted to be a bitch and quit.

I like it though. I would definitely recommend. It's moderately spicy but very smooth. Would like a little more punch. I'd call it a better than average every day bourbon. It's got an after taste that's different and I can't put my finger on.

I ran across this at about 26 dollars and picked it up. Now I pick it up whenever I see it. Of course I haven't found it for 26 again, I think my liquor store made a mistake. There isn't much information on it anywhere. I find it odd that it is bottled in the exact same bottle as Elmer T Lee.

I picked up some Blantons after work today but I don't know if I want to open it this weekend or save it until I finish these two big projects at work. I haven't seen Four Roses anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find it in the Hammond/Northshore area, or where the best selection is in the area?
