I'm in the market for a 3d printer.. I've allocated 5-10 grand for this purchase and was wondering if anyone knows a good place to gain some knowledge and reviews of those currently available or soon to be, with full specs and capabilities.

The guys over at the reprap site have a lot of insight. It might be limited to self-built 3D printers but you might want to check it out.

For $10,000 you could probably get one of the higher end ones I'm sure.

He needs to stay away from so much philosophical verbiage when he is speaking to the media. If he uses simpler language, then it will resonate his points much easier.

I personally really enjoy his philosophical ramblings, but I think you make a good point. Philosophy is rarely a good method for selling an idea.

As Wiki said, personally I enjoy his philosophical ideas.

It's like porn for Libertarians.

I find his philosophical discussions excellent...in the right atmosphere to the right audience. In the video of him speaking to a class, it was perfect, but I watched another one with the British news and he confused the media and turned a 5 minute question into 15.

Wouldn't it be interesting if somebody drew up a 3d printer design for a gun that deliberately blew up in somebody's face?

3D printers are definitely the wave of the future... and I believe I was the first to report on them here about four years ago. I'm a visionary, you see.

Why would you want that to happen?

I haven't read through the whole thread so I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but you can buy your own cnc lathe and milling machine now and build your own guns from metals that won't break. However, the set up cost will run you +$20,000 on the cheap end.

I guess the exciting part of this technology is resin (ink) development for stronger parts.

Currently I see this 3D printing technology as a powerful tool in prototyping. Also as a tool to build molds for castings.

2004 in Wired, Chris Anderson wrote about 3d printers. Not you, have you ever had a original thought? By that I mean not one you culled from some liberal emag or msnbc?

Seeing as how 3D printers were first used in the 1980's, I think we're all a little behind the ball.
