3,060 hits, no right hander ever has more doubles than his 600+, all star at multiple positions, 400+ stolen bases. Dude sucks. You gonna be mad when he gets in next year despite not being a hall of famer?

This is one of the writers' takes on PED's, pretty good view of it, I think:

quote:

I wrote about this complicated issue a month ago and explained why I've changed my stance. Basically, I believe PED use was part of a particular era of the game and the Hall of Fame should reflect those times. The place is a museum, after all.

Let's be honest, everybody involved in the game ignored the PED issue for a long time. MLB, the MLBPA, owners, GMs, managers, players, media, and fans, we all marveled at all the home runs and didn't ask many questions. To me, it would be hypocritical to have ignored the issue in 2002 and then punish players in 2012.

I'm also uncomfortable with the idea of using suspicion as a reason not to vote for somebody. Excluding players like Bagwell and Piazza because you kinda sorta think they probably did steroids is McCarthyism. Beyond that, no voter can be absolutely sure that a player he believes to be clean was in fact clean.

That said, home runs hit during the Steroids Era have to be devalued to some degree because home runs were cheap to come by.

Piazza not getting in is a joke. If you're the best hitter at your position ever, you belong in the HOF.

bullshite! Being a HOF means you are the best at your position both defensively and offensively. Piazza consistently led the league in errors, passed balls, and his inability to throw out base runners. There is a reason he was never voted league MVP like Bench, Munson, Rodriguez, Mauer, or Posey

Next year should be a large class with Maddux, Glavine, Biggio, probably Jack Morris being inducted.

I think Piazza & Thomas could also go in next year.

The voter's are idiots if they consider the steroid issue. The sport fricked up by not enforcing it early. All they are doing now is just ignoring an era of their history. They should just vote people in on the on the field accomplishments and if it really bothers them it will cycle out in the next era with better enforcement of the rules.

Baseball writers are a-holes.

I like Biggio, but shite he was never even the best player on his own team. Much less an MVP caliber player...much less an all time great.

Doesn't matter, the numbers get him in without question. Gotta love the HBP stat.

On that criteria, at least half of the hall should be kicked out.

His numbers aren't that impressive given how long he played. Of course they matter. But 3000 hits is all he has to stand on

Biggio has awesome numbers. In fact, I think his quest for 3000 hurt his case, as he was one of the best percentage players ever until his late career.

not making the top ten this year? Dale Murphy - which sucks almost more than words can say.

If the HOF voters are about making statements against the guys who were using PEDs this was the year to recognize a two time MVP on his last HOF ballot

Dale missing out in spite of being a two time MVP (whose numbers were marginalized by the steroid era voters are lashing out against) is the worst part of this year's HOF voting in my eyes.
