I started TWoT series well over a decade ago, and really enjoyed the series, even with some of the later books that just dragged on and on and never seemed to advance the main story arc.
Unfortunately, after Jordan passed it had been so long since I had read the last one that I really don't remember the earlier books.
To finally complete the series, I am going to have to reread the whole series . . . and that's a pretty daunting task!

Mrs. Vedder is in the process of doing just that. she didn't feel she remembered enough to read the final three books, and decided to start over.
As much as i've enjoyed these books, there is no way I'd start over. My book queue is already too long. Each time a new book came out, I went back and read some of the online summaries to keep my memory refreshed.

I didn't get into these until after a college when a roommate let me borrow his copies... probably my favorite series but the wait between all the recent books has taken some of the shine off. When I started the first 10 were out so it was great to read straight through them.
Still going to Amazon now and ordering the finale...

I'm about 170 pages in. I really want to know who Demandred is, damnit.
The scene where Rand thinks someone is Demandred and then realizes it is not made me laugh.

You will never guess who he is. I read just about every theory on dragonmount about his location and man... don't want to go any further for spoilers, but  was my reaction during the reveal.

Spoiler Question
So after the swap, is Rand alive in the waking world or the World of Dreams? Alivia leaving him clothes and gold seems to indicate the waking world, and the reference to chopping firewood for a place to sleep, but the lighting of the pipe sounds like Tel'a . . ., the World of Dreams.

I hunted down a similiar series after ASOIAF too, and I tried Wheel of Time. I got to book 2 and I just could not get into it. The characters were all very boring, and I just did not care for any of them.
If you want something similar to Game of Thrones, I would go with Joe Abercrombies First Law Trilogy. Morally grey characters, very dark and gritty. Very entertaining.

WOT actually dwarfed ASOIAF in sales for most of its run. It was THE Fantasy series for most of its run, but fell off at Jordan's death and then the GOT TV show happened.
They are quite different. Ice and Fire is much more "reality" based I guess and has lots of sex and ultra violence, and lots of morally ambiguous characters. WOT is much more traditional fantasy based in that the violence is a bit more cartoonish, there is not a lot of sex, and there is CLEARLY defined Good and Evil, and supernatural and magical elements.
And it is overly long, annoying at times, and really drags. It is my first fantasy series so it will hold a special place, but its just way too long and somewhat outdated, and filled with annoying characters and scenes.
Joe Abercrombie, Scott Lynch and Patrick Rothfuss are alternative examples to read instead.

Apparently the Prolouge I bought is also the Prolouge in the book. This puts me about 260 pages in.
On a side note... Since this isn't available on e-reader until April (fricking Tor) I have been having to get re-acquainted with this "ancient technology" we call books.
I like to read in bed just before I go to sleep. Both nights thus far I have turned out my light just to grab my book and realize I need a light source again.
The other thing is every now and then I catch myself trying to turn the page by tapping it.

Finished it a few days ago. I had lost interest when the books started plodding along (after book 6), but when The Gathering Storm came out it re-ignited my interest.
AMoL was a satisfying end to the series. There are definitely parts that got a bit wonky, and a few head scratchers here and there, but overall I really enjoyed it. It was never going to be the same after Jordan passed, but I really wished he had moved the story along in books 7-11.

Agreed. I would have liked to have seen some better endings overall, but considering Jordan was planning on writing novels continuing the series for certain characters before he died, it;s kinda to be expected.

There's only two books that are Winters Heart and Daggers. I actually really enjoyed a crown of swords.
A fitting end.. and I'm glad Jordan got to write the epilogue. Talk about leaving you hanging.. if you read the last three books as one large book (there's only 1 day of time passing between ToM and AMOL) then it's really a great read.
I just want to know who the frick is Nakomi.. I suspect Verin as a hero of the horn, but I don't really know.
