And is it your view that, with some mystical power, they have swayed public opinion and have the power to control outcomes in American politics? Or is it your view that the majority of the American public is either dumb and ill-informed OR "takers"?

To some degree, certainly. What the "man on the street" knows is very much tied to what gets disseminated into pop culture by themquote:

Again, to some degree, certainly. If they wanted to take Barack Obama down, they could so easily.quote:
Are is it your view that the majority of the American public is either dumb and ill-informed OR "takers"?
Some are dumb. Some are misguided but smart, some are takers, etc. It's no different on the left or right in those terms.

Not all opinions are created equal. Maybe all of those scientists and columnists are "right" rather than "biased".

Can someone please provide an example of Snopes' bias?
I honestly wouldn't say blatant bias like MSNBC, but more slight left bias (kinda like CNN). Just for a somewhat easy example of what I mean: Number of Republicans specifically listed vs. Democrats: LINK Republicans: George W. Bush Sarah Palin Rick Santorum John McCain Mitt Romney Paul Ryan Democrats: Barak Obama Bill & Hillary Clinton (why they are listed together I don't know) John Kerry Nacy Pelosi So we list two Republican VP candidates, but don't even have Biden listed? Again, not huge bias or anything, but very slight bias does exist IMO.

It is an admonishment to remove political filters. Identify truth. Then if you choose to spin facts in an adversarial way, at least you're doing so with self-understanding.quote:
American public: Uhmmm . . . . America? OR "takers"?
Have you watched a single episode of Jay Leno "JayWalking"? ========= Leno: Why do we celebrate July 4th? American public: It's Independence Day! Leno: Yes but Independence from what? American public: Uhmmm . . . . America? Leno: No American public: Uhmmm . . . . ? Leno: It was from another country. American public: Uhmmm . . . . Texas? Leno: King George was their king. American public: Uhmmm . . . . Greece? (ETA: accurate to the best of my recollection) ========= Some are pretty funny though Leno: Which President was referred to as "Tricky Dick"? Lady: Uhmmm . . . (giggles) . . . Bill Clinton? ==================== Conclusion: There is no question the majority of the American public is either dumb or ill-informed.

Dumbasses, cherry picked by Leno producers from streets of L.A., are not a representative sample. Thankfully.

Cuts both ways, my friend. There are very few absolutes in this arena.

I think you are correct, while they are relatively good with the facts they investigate, there seems to be a selection bias. What are the chances Harry Reid's claim that Katrina was nothing compared to Sandy will be debunked? It a Republican made such a stupid claim I think there is a stronger chance of investigation and getting put on the internet.

There are so many lies it's hard to remember them all. Like Obama went to a Madrassas as a boy, the terrorist fist bump, the video of Obama quoting McCain re the economy being sound but leaving the part out of him quoting. Literally every day. And it's not defamatory stories through made by incompetence. It's a concerted effort as seen by eternal memos by a "news organization" started up and run by Reagan's media guy. There are multiple sites set up chronicling this. Here's one LINK Let me ask you, has there ever been a network which actively attempted to recruit and back a presidential candidate? Fox did LINK

Mornin hog. It hurts...but congrats on a big win. We've argued the existance of *God* to the max, to the point of getting kicked out of the political forum...and in the final analysis it comes down to a matter of SUBJECTIVE perspective. Preference, and choice, in effect. Stephen Hawking has come to believe such is the case. "Reality is subjective"; I heard him say it out of that little computer box. The common perception of what the term *God* describes and means to religious individuals and groups, inclines most to perceive God as being separate...which would be philosophically/ spiritually and scientifically impossible. And certainly not what Hawking's concept would be. Any separation, I.e., limitation, would invalidate the very idea of God as being ALL powerful. Though it could grant particular *separation* in the creation of Individuals. Such separation would only be valid from the INDIVIDUAL'S pov. The cliff note version would be that God is the sum total of all energy, matter and...consciousness. You could say that those three are one (biblical Trinity?) with Energy being the Father, Matter being the Son (derived from Energy) and Consciousness, as conscious being relates to Intellect, being the Holy Spirit of Truth or the 'blueprint'. The existence of Infinite 'quantities' (paradox, obviously) of those three...being conscious...would be as close as one could get to labeling *God*. Whatever that would be...it AINT a person, much less a human. Of course, not so for it's Son...Jesus; but that's only if you've bought in to that soul/evil/salvation paradigm. The alternative...would be matter mulch. There is rationality, which relates to empircial reality and scientific evidence. There is irrationality, which contradicts rationality; of of the which would be delusional. And there is ARRATIONALITY, which takes into account and defines the spirit aspect (Consciousness, in all its potential forms, including Unlimited) of the SUBJECTIVE aspect of conscious being. To take the leap of Faith (Arrationality) and do what is in effect, VALIDATE a basic conceptual potential...might seem 'delusional' or irrational...but so would a round Earth or the Theory of Relativity to them that don't see it. Bottom line. To each their own. Like a buffet...explore, give it a whirl, take a shot, and if you like it, put in in your like/values column and it becomes YOUR reality. Rant for the day. Good luck!

i had to delete a ton of family from facebook for posting too much of that anti-Obama conspiracy shit
While I don't facebook, I have had to relegate friends and family to the "junk" folder of my e-mail from receiving all of the crazy anti-Obama shit, but the weird thing is that, while I probably have more liberal than conservative friends and family, I never get those weird conspiracy e-mails from the left. What's up with that? Is e-mail the AM radio of the 2000's or some shite - just limited to marginal conservative paranoia? Even the anti Bush conspiracy paranoia coming out during his administration seemd to be coming more from libertarians than liberals with all of the 911 conspiracy shite. And why doesn't the left wing liberal media cover the conservative bias in the conspiracy paranoia? Bias?

Sarah had a bunch because of the drama involving her family. But in reality you would want your name there because a majority of their posts defend the person by declaring the rumors about them to be false. By listing more R's than D's, wouldn't that suggest that the site is leaning more to the Right?
