Or even the spillway. Anyone here do it? What must one get to get started for personal use. I have a surface drive boat and access to traps. What license and general knowledge do I need

Commercial license to sell for sure. Pretty sure the fisherman in the basin either own or lease the "land" they run their traps on.

I have been south of Ramah on the levee when the water was high. Caught many but small crawfish on the ditch with the set nets...

I put 35 in the spillway every year, gets crowded but as long as you don't put your stuff on top of others it's fine. Bring lots of flagging. Pillow traps are best.

from what I've seen fishing the south end of the basin, it's more along the lines of respecting each others spots that their families have fished for generations..

I have a whole case right here. I just put out 100 traps today on my dad's land. Still have about 700 or more to put out...

That's kinda what I figured. I know I have read that unless your land surrounds water, that it is not owned by anyone

That doesn't mean those old timers still won't shoot you and use you for crawfish bait for hurting their pocketbook...

I know Louisiana coastal zone and water way laws. And understand the areas fished for generations. But I would like to give it a try. Thanks for the help so far. If anyone has any more info please let me know

I've only crawfished in ponds. Where do you set traps and what are you looking for

false. My dad is a commercial fisherman over 20 years. No one owns the rights to navigable waterways.
