| Nancy Pelosi: Taxing Top Earners Even More "Not Off The Table" (Posted on 1/6/13 at 2:18 pm)
BOB SCHIEFFER, CBS NEWS: People who are listening to you this morning are going to say, 'She's talking about more taxes, she's talking about bringing in more in one way or another by increasing taxes.' REP. NANCY PELOSI (D-CALI.): One thing I'm not talking about is bringing in more at the expense of the middle class -- at the expense of the middle class. That is not something… and that was what we were fighting all along in this because to the extent that you diminished the tax cut -- the tax change at the high end, you would have to claw down into the middle class to get more revenue. SCHIEFFER: Are you then saying to the upper classes, 'Get ready, you're going to have to pay some more?' This is not end of it? PELOSI: Well, I'm saying that it's not off the table. LINK

I will just continue to defer compensation and realize losses over the next four yrs and hope for lower taxes in the future. These tax hikes WILL result in lower tax revenue over the next several yrs. I may also work less. I will certainly freeze pay and possibly decrease benefits for my employees if I need to. FORWARD!!!!

I was detecting rumblings from liberal opinion pieces that the fiscal cliff deal didn't satiate their appetite for higher taxes. Pelosi just confirmed it. They'll never have enough.

Does anyone really believe that anyone who makes less than 250,000 will not be taxed? Those who believe this are beginning to outnumber those who knew all the while they were lying.

The vaunted 'middle class' is next. The US gobermint cannot tax those eee'ville wich fowlkes enough to make a signicant dent in the trillion $$$ plus deficits that this obama fool & the evil miscreants in the democrat party keep running. Sorry to sound like a broken record but those 'balanced' tax rate increases on the wich are going to raise about $80 billion/yr(if that much). The US goberming is still going to run trillion $$$ deficits for many, many, many years to come. The US Federal budget deficit for FY 2012 is probably going to be around $1.2 to 1.3 TRILLION dollars: US deficit for FY2012: $1,200,000,000,000.00 barry's 'balanced' approach will raise about $80billion/yr. Thats still leaves a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE hole of: $1,120,000,000,000.00 shortfall. Perhaps a obama supporter can tell us HOW are we going to fill that $ 1trillion PLUS federal budget shortfall, which we are going to be seeing annually for the next 10 years.

Don't worry. The Tea Party will be blamed for the credit downgrade. They're extremists/terrorists for not wanting to overspend by trillions, ya know.

On Meet the Press they were talking about they need to get another 600 billion in revenue over the next ten years. So, that is 60 billion a year more in revenue for a spending 3.5 trillion on a 7% baseline budget. If my math is correct will increase spending every year by about 245 billion so generating 60 billion ain't gonna solve nothing. What is sad is no one is willing to call the bastards out when they ignore math!

McConnell:
quote:
“[T]he tax issue is finished, over, completed,” said the Kentucky Republican, during an appearance on ABC’s "This Week." "That's behind us. Now the question is, what are we going to do about the biggest problem confronting our country and our future? And that's our spending addiction. It's time to confront it. The president surely knows that. I mean, he has mentioned it both publicly and privately. The time to confront it is now."
Pelosi's response:
quote:
“No, no, it is not,” she said, when asked by CBS’ Bob Schieffer if the revenue side was now taken care of. “I mean, the president had said originally he wanted $1.6 trillion in revenue, he took it down to 1.2 as a compromise in this legislation. We get $620 billion dollars, very significant, high-end tax, changing the high-end tax rate to 39.6 percent, but that is not enough on the revenue side.”
Their upcoming battle on tax reform:
quote:
The hope, among Democrats, is that another $600 billion in revenue may be raised through comprehensive tax reform. The stage for that was set when lawmakers extended tax breaks for several wealth industries during the just-completed fiscal cliff deal. Eliminating those breaks in two months' time could be another revenue booster. But in a separate appearance on "Meet The Press," McConnell ruled out even that. “I'm in favor of doing tax reform,” he said, “but I think tax reform ought to be revenue-neutral as it was back during the Reagan years. We've resolved this issue. Look, we don't have this problem because we tax too little. We have it because we spend way, way too much.”
LINK Comprehensive tax reform means we (the workers/actual taxpayers) are all screwed. Again. Income levels notwithstanding. So, about 15,000 more pages of tax regulations that boil down to everyone who's not a taker paying more taxes. Never fails. Flat tax/Fair tax, anyone?

Sounds like they are going to go after Big Oil's subsidies. I personally would have no problem eliminating all subsidies, but that is not what she is talking about. She also believes if she increases oil companies' taxes by 38 billion it will not affect the middle class. Apparently the middle class don't buy petroleum products.
