That's pretty impressive. I consider myself a pretty good shot. I've been shooting guns my whole life. Still, I only got marksman my first try.
I got expert the second time though.

I shot expert in boot, and then again with a pistol.
Pistol is much more difficult IMO.

When he's talking to other Marines, it is implied his son's service is appreciated. But he's not in the fleet yet. He's still being trained.

In order to pick up PFC he would need to become a guide or squad leader if he didn't do the things necessary to get contract PFC prior to going to boot camp

It's not incredibly difficult. I would estimate that more than 25% of recruits initially qualify as experts due to the high level of coaching and instruction they receive during grass week and qual week.
Re-quals in the fleet should prove to be more difficult.
Was he at Stone Bay or Edson Range
My uncle was in the marines
