| Rand Paul: I'm thinking about a presidential bid (Posted on 1/6/13 at 2:34 pm)
Sen. Rand Paul, heir to his father Rep. Ron Paul's political establishment and following, said Friday that he is thinking about running for president, declaring that only a "libertarian-Republican" can unite the GOP. Speaking on "The Andrea Tantaros Show with Jason Mattera," which debuted this week, the Kentucky Republican said that while he hasn't ruled a presidential run in 2016 in or out, the GOP is going to have to turn to somebody like him to win enough voters to beat a Democrat. "We are going to have to have somebody a little bit different than we've had in the past," he told Tantaros on the show that replaced the Laura Ingraham Show on the Talk Radio Network. "Someone who can appeal to people in New England and on the West Coast. Someone who has a little more of a libertarian-Republican approach, I think, would have a better chance with independents and moderates. "And so we'll think about it." This week, he took a big step toward having a base to run for the White House by winning a seat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where he said he will have a voice on international issues. His first foreign trip in his new role is something of a surprise. He's traveling to Israel and also meeting with officials in Jordan and the West Bank. His father and he have been knocked for being anti-Israel for their opposition to U.S. military aid. But in the Tantaros-Mattera interview, he broke from his father and said that instead he is worried that foreign aid to Egypt must be blocked because the equipment could end up being used against Israel. He'd lose 1964 style though. The democrats will demagogue the hell out of his views, using fear to scare the American people.

I would consider voting for him, depending on where I live at the time and how he votes over the next three years.

He is definitely not the heir to Paul's 'establishment', at least in the eyes of the members of said establishment.

I may be wrong but I don't think he is near as nutty as his dad all around and especially on foreign policy. He does not get enough credit overall. I heard him speak and he is brilliant.

Just about anyone other than a spineless republican or any democrat would get my vote at this point. His first trip is to Isreal.....interdasting, I wonder if Hilary will pull some strings to have him "assasinated" while he is there. Bet your arse the Dems don't need or want anyone that could possibly open the American eyes.

I think when Santorum,Newt the penquin Pelosi sofa sitter, probably Romney again Palin in her dumbass bus,PawPaw, all line up again- Rand Paul will look damned good. I wish Jon Voight would run for President and pick West as a VP. West is brilliant and loathed by the left so I like him. Susana Martinez and Nikki Haley will probably run.

This!!! I would find all voters with my name and vote early for them too!!!! I would disable the transportation of every dem I know. I would have a party giving out free menthol cigs and koolaid on voting day. It would be located well away from voting places and would last until the polls closed.

The question is: could be beat her? He certainly appeals to hardworking factory folks in the rust belt far more than she does.

The electorate is too smart to buy into the libertarian vision of utopia like the members of this board do.

What utopias are libertarians selling? ETA: I am especially keen to hear what kind of utopias that moral/rights-based libertarians are selling.

Libertarians aren't selling utopia. We're selling reality.

I wouldn't call protecting our borders and ending foreign welfare to be nutty. But big government types would, I suppose.

I know from a bunch of RonPaul Bots that RPaul thinks 911 was an inside job and does not even think we should have fought Hitler. Rand Paul is not this nutty.
