| anyone carry a .380 for CCW? (Posted on 1/6/13 at 12:21 pm)
Went to Barney's in Lafayette yesterday and my buddy brought a Sig P238. It's looks like a baby 1911. It shot really well and I think I want one. Sig also makes a 9mm version of the gun too. Would I have to turn in my man card if I carried a .380?

I carry a SnW bodyguard .380 fits right in my pocket and nobody knows its there. ETA:

Thats just dumb logic. For whatever reason people thing that b/c oh "I'm a man, I need to CC a D. Eagle .50..rawr!" For what? As long as you have something that can go bang and neutralize a threat you're GTG in IMO. I tried carrying around other pistols and it became all too cumbersome. The gun I have now fits right in my jeans/shorts/jacket pocket and hell I even forget its there sometimes, but thats just me preference.

In the summer I definitely carry my .380, unless appropriate clothing is worn. This time of year I'm toting the .45

Might be due to the fact they're fixated on what you have on your hip.

A .380 is a good conceal gun. Lots of LEO's carry them as backup guns. You have to factor in it's intended use. A CC weapon is there to buy you time to fend off a threat. Stopping a guy dead in his tracks is great but, that is difficult to do with any small caliper gun. Even a .9mm is unlikely to do that. When you get into larger guns, .40, .38 or 10mm, they are bigger weapons and more difficult to carry concealed. Personally, I want a small gun that I can easily slip into my pocket and not have to worry about trying to conceal it. If the weapon is difficult to conceal, I just won't bother with the hassle, especially in the summer when you have less clotting on. The man card stays IMHO.

No your man card is fine. I would be scared shitless of any gun pointed in my direction. Anyone who says they wouldn't be is a liar. That being said just make sure it's atleast .380 which is the smallest caliber you want to go for self defense purposes

Hell no! I carry a Kahr p.380. I wear scrubs alot and it's just easier and more comfortable to carry than any 9mm or larger I have. I do have a 9mm, .40S&W, and a .45 I carry depending on what I'm wearing. Just remeber, if it's too uncomfortable to carry or to hard to conceal that you leave it a home. It has NO stopping power.

I bet there have been more people killed by 9mm bullets than .40; .38; or 10mm.

If you look at the state and rating if gullets you will find that if your buy one of the top 5% of bullets (meaning best available on the market) they tend to have the same kill numbers as larger caliber rounds. Keep in mind with a smalle caliber gun you can usually carry a few more rounds in the mag. I usually carry my XD 9 compact and my 5.7 in the car

No, if you can hit a 3x5" index card with it at 7 to 10 yards you are good. .380 will kill someone just as dead as a .44. Granted you have to be able to punch the holes with it where they will do the most good. The 3x5" card reference
