The CDC and government likes to scare the crap out of everyone. But I had to bring someone to the ER yesterday for severe strept throat symptoms and it was the flu. Workers were disinfecting all the seats in the waiting room because they said two full families came through with a lot of kids and let them do whatever they wanted. (The older ladies were complaining that no one disciplines young kids anymore) They had masks required for all to put on if you had any type of a cough. So, this is real, it lasts about a week and it can give people BAD sore throats that never get them. Louisiana looks to be pretty healthy and no flu yet. The ER docs are pushing Tamiflu at a mere $100 cost but it only works if you take it at onset. I read a study that even if you got the flu shot more are getting this flu. So the CDC is worthless IMO and seem to be pushing big pharma Tamiflu.

The flu has been around forever. Why all the panic about it now?

Probably so. I heard this year's flu season was pretty big. It might have been worse though. I've heard that the flu shot actually covered the most common strains this year.

You seem to misunderstand flu shots. You still have the chance of getting the flu, the symptoms are not as bad though.

Don't touch you nose or your eyes with your hands when you are in public. Adopted that habit 12 years ago and haven't had the flu since. Also, hot tubs and steam rooms at the gym can leave you more susceptible to flu. Don't use them.

So they can push tamiflu. It would also seem somewhat helpful to read this if you get all the symptoms to know it is not strept throat, as that is what it feels like. And then someone be spared a doc visit.

Oh I understand them quite well. I used to be mandated to get the flu shot. And I always got the flu after the shot. There are non LIVE VIRUS flu shots though. It all gets complicated but I was healthier when I was not mandated to get the flu shots.

Tamiflu works quite well even later in the course of treatment. If you can't afford it, you certainly free to ride it out in misery and f$%k over big pharma. I'd rather feel better in a day or two.

I gotcha. Some people just seem to have the idea that getting the flu shot means they won't get the flu. Then they get disappointed when they get mild symptoms.

If this leads to more people getting flu shots it's not a bad thing

I find it hard to believe you confused strep throat with flu, especially if it was bad enough to go to the ER.....

Opinions are like noses everyone has one. I happen to think unless you are old or very young or unhealthy generally....it is good to build up immunities by crawling in bed and drinking clear fluids and defeating it. 7 days off work is what hurts but so many are without jobs anyway. But knock yourself out with tamiflu lol I am glad it helps someone.

You do realize the Tamiflu doesn't make it magically disappear? Yeah, it marginally helps your immune statement to beat it completely unaided, but not that much.

I'm something of a masochist. I have never gotten a flu shot, and I have never gotten the flu. However, part of me wants to get the flu just to see what it's like - and yes, I know it's miserable. I'm just a curious dumb ass.

Yeah I made the whole thing up The throat hurts so bad and there were some white spots all through the throat. And LIKE I SAID the person NEVER gets a sore throat.

No, it's really not. Often times, flu begins with sore throat and high fever. Strep can make someone feel really shitty.
