Need clarification on a step in scoringf a deer

quote:

: GREATEST SPREAD
The greatest spread is measured between perpendiculars at a right angle to the center line of the skull at the widest part, whether across main beams or points. See Figure B.
Greatest Spread:
what does this mean?

You measure it with the tape perpendicular to the line down the middle of his skull.

In other words you can't measure spread as the distance from the tip of a beam to the base of the other beam.

Ok but it says you measure spread from tip to tip, inside spread, then you do another from tip to center line of skull?

ETA: I had a brain fart. They are talking about outside spread but explaining that it has to be straight across and not at an angle right?

Yea that's what it's saying. You have to go straight across his head at the widest point

Could that measurment be tip of G3 to tip of G3 if that's wider than main beam spread?

If its perpendicular to the center of the head, yes.

It rarely is though. It's rarely wider anyway.

I think it's main beam only, not between times.

I've never understood this explanation either. Why does it matter what the greatest spread is when you only use the greatest inside spread when scoring?

Yea they made that way to difficult. Makes it sound like you use inside and outside (or widest point) in the score.
