It really was. The first time I heard it I wasn't for sure. Thought maybe I was losing my mind from watching too many GoT episodes on rerun. But by the 2nd time I was like "that's fricking awesome". Hah.

Quick question...just watched an episode on HBO when Ser Barristan was de-cloaked. Just what secret(s) do the theorists think he knows that he will reveal later? Is it Jon Snow's parentage?

Possible, but highly doubtful.

The only person who can know Jon Snow's parentage is Howland Reed.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure he would have meationed to Dany about her nephew.....

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

None really.

Barristan isnt the type of man to know secrets or plots. Hes a soldier pure and simple. He can only paint a better picture ofthe targaryens since he was the LC of their kingsguard and hes already done that. I expect him to die in the next book honestly.

Thanks, yall! Whereas I caught a lot of the small stuff when I read the books I didn't catch some of the smaller details that are apparently pieces to the larger puzzle. I do think Jojen and Meera will spill the beans later on what they know...

I thought the same thing at first, but then how could Jon validate that to get others to defend his claim. They are going to need come shred of hard proof.

No he doesn't.

Aegon the conqueror had no claim to the throne. Robert baratheon had no REAL claim to the throne. They sat their arse on the seat because they were powerful enough to kill the man who was sitting there and they were powerful enough to keep it.

Even if Jon did have that proof he will still be viewed as bastard because proof of his RT's marriage to LS would still not be available and bastards can not hold titles, certainly not be king.

Jon's heritage is only significant because RT had visions that a son from his blood line would be Azor Ahai reborn/ the prince that was promised.

I doubt that the iron throne is even a thing by the end. I expect a return to the old ways and seven different kingdoms.

Aegon had Dragons.
Robert had Stormsend plus the north and the Vale. they were quick to join because the King was mad.

As both Aegon and Robert won battles, more sides switched to them.

JS has neither the advantages of Aegon and Robert. Since the last group he lead did what they did at the end of the last novel, I doubt many would follow him save the wildlings. The only way he can claim the throne is to have Dragons, not lineage.

But you are right, at the end the throne may be a forgotten aspect and Westeros will return to days of old.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

Just finished the Dunk and Egg novellas last night after finishing ADWD just before Christmas. Wow, the books and this thread have my head spinning. I think I would really benefit from a re-read as the amount of foreshadowing in the early novels is immense and would probably enhance my understanding of the entire story structure.

A question to start though, and sorry if this has been re-hashed -

Why is the general consensus that Bloodraven's motives are necessarily bad/evil and in league with the Others? I'm not sold on that idea.

In the D&E stories he is portrayed by the small folk as a sorcerer/kinslayer = evil (responsible for drought, etc...) But in reality, it appears to me that he is just loyal to the Targ family (even though he is only a bastard offspring of the family.)

He then became Lord Commander of the Nights Watch upon is exile to the wall (anti-Other.) At the time of Bran's training, he is holed up in a cave with the Children of the Forest who have throughout the story been on Mankind's side against the Others.

I agree that Bloodraven is the tree training Bran but I do not believe it is established that it is for evil purposes. I think it is a more a passing of the torch in connection with Bran's relationship with Jon and his genealogical lineage (a Targ on the throne.) I don't even know if the Throne is Bloodravens' greatest interest at this point however, it might even be the fact that Winter is Coming - ie, Others gaining strength and a great battle coming.

I'm open to debate though. Fire away -

Azor ahai shall be born amidst salt and smoke to wake stone dragons from the earth

And whose to say that Jon wont have dragons?

And winning a few battles/saving the realm from the others should go a long way towards winning the north and the riverlands. As well as possibly Dorne considering they still love Rhaegar and Doran probably knew of Rhaegars belief that AA will be born from his line

Great post. I completely agree.

Im one of the few people who believe that bloodraven and company are evil and ive said many times that i have very littke actusl evidence to base that opinion off of. Its just a hunch, they make me uncomfortable and im not ready to trust them.

Gotcha...there is so much I've missed in the readings that I wanted to know if there were any clues leading people to feel that way. A hunch in this universe is just as good as concrete evidence sometimes. Cheers.
